rogue dealer!!!!! in St George bristol ( updated 2)

:mad:hi there,
really gutted with my new car, technically, without my new car.
bought my car a month ago from a dealer in St George Bristol. I need a big pratical and cheap car. so I went for a 53 reg mondeo, 75k .for £3k. did test drive ,seems all fine. thought can not be too wrong with a mondeo.
but I was wrong , very wrong
the car started to have smoke coming out from tailpipe on the very SECOND day. black smoke at the beginning then turned to blue smoke, and the engine warning light was on as well. I then realised the car is burning engine oil, ( about 40miles per liter as driving back and forward to the dealer.)
So I took it back to the dealer. refused to do refund as expected, I asked to change to a different car, dealer said he will only take the car for £2k for exchange, or £1.5k for cash. ( We argued for a quite a while )
which left me no choice to leave the car with him for repair.
he was "kind " enough to lend me a crysler which has no key with the fuel cap lock and broken down in the city centre a few days later which they ask me to figure it out myself , anyway that was another story.
now it has been 3 weeks exactly since I left the mondeo with them for repair. I phone the dealer several times now, he just keep on saying the car is with the mechanic, and won't talk into details.
Could anyone please suggest me what to do? I really I am gutted and have no idea how to deal with this deal.
updates: 27/07/2009
phoned the dealer today , suprisingly they said the car was fixed already ( after 4 weeks and 3 days)
went there ,picked up the car, seems fine
HOWEVER, by the time I drove back home , the car was exactly the same as before again. serious blue smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.
and to make it worse, I phone the RAC, they told me the car was not registered. as part of the deal, the car should carry a 6mth RAC warranty of maintaince and breakdown worth £200
Should I speak to the credit card company to dispute the payment ? I paid £500 of the £2900 by credit card
updates 2 30/07
talked to the university students union , they put me through to a local solicitor, the guy phoned me and chated me through all the things I need to do, He has been really helpful, and even phoned the dealer for me. the dealer was very abusive to him over the phone, and he did not believe for a second the dealer will get the car fixed for me.
going to write a complain letter to dealer ( mainly as an evident that I have given the dealer chance to sort it out)
the egg card will send me a form to dispute the payment as well.

Mate, Id be contacting them or better still going along to this dealer.
Where abouts is this?
PM me, Im very very close to Bristol and maybe able to offer better advice.
You should ring Trading standards in the morning and logged this as a complaint, 3k is alot to be losing and 3 weeks is totally out of a time limit I'd wait for a repair by a dealer

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Agreed, trading standards. This dealer will otherwise just keep stringing you along ad infinitum. Unfortunately it looks like you have indeed fallen foul of a dodgy dealer, and you'll be hard pressed to sort it out yourself.Favours are returned ... Trust is earned

Hello thanks everyone
I have spoken to citizen advisery today, they gave me a print of guide on secondhand car and pointed me to consumer direct
I have also phoned the credit card company, with which I paid £500 deposit. they advise me to engage the dealer state me rights, and give them time to sort it out ( which I did , 4 weeks since I bought the car and 3 weeks past after I left the car with them)
if still can not get it sorted, they can file a dispute.
btw where is the trading standards /assosiation and how can I get them involved? I did google it
thanks again
