Claiming Free Gifts

Hi,
I recently bought a Brother sewing machine from Argos, it clearly stated in the Argos, claim FREE accessory kit, I asked about this at the counter and the helpful shop assistant told me I had to go online to the Brother web site. The box also had a sticker on saying the same. I tried and couldn't find the offer on the website, so I emailed the question, how do I claim my gift. The answer I received was that the offer had finished end of March, I bought the sewing machine in the middle of June, I re emailed they told me to take it up with Argos, again I emailed customer services, who felt it was nothing to do with them, that I should talk to the store and return my item, I emailed again, explaining I did not wish to return the item I would just like the free gift, again they replied by saying basically "TOUGH".
Where do I stand on this, I feel aggreived that they have just disregarded me when I bought the item in good faith believing I was getting the free gift, there were other choices but I liked the idea of the kit, so paid more for this machine than my second choice, which had similar functions. Please help....thank u

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com:hello:0 -
Thank you, please move it if you can to where it will get the best response.0

Hi
No, nothing showing on the box, or on the Argos catalogue page. I've kept both to make sure.0 -
In that case I would keep the pressure on Argos.
Their advert said you'd get a free accessory kit and that's what you want.0 -
Your contract is with Argos as the retailer, and your purchase is incomplete. Argos have an obligation to inform you before you make a purchase if the item is not sold as described, which it clearly wasn't. However, it does seem unlikely that the kit is available now. You are entitled to a full refund, but they may offer vouchers as an alternative to the kit, and if you like the sewing machine you may be happy with this. Before you go back to Argos I would think about which of these realistic outcomes you would prefer.0

In a similar vein to the above, are companies legally obliged to publish expiry dates on the products?
We have been collecting Yorkshire Tea tokens for quite some time. Neither the tokens - which are printed inside the box - or the advertising blurb on the outside ("collect tokens for gifts") have an expiry date. Tonight I went to their website to see what gifts were available, only to discover that the token scheme finished at the end of June. I feel quite annoyed about this. While we would probably have purchased the product anyway, surely they should be required to print an expiry date for redeeming their tokens, not assume that everyone is checking their webpage (not everyone has computer access for a start!)
Any advice?0 -
there would be terms and conditions somewhere which may state the offer may be wihdrawn at any time...or something along those linesEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
