Grant help please?

Options
Hello

Hoping someone on here can help me.

My husband has a long term disability. he gets Dla higher rate mobility and the lower rate for care. We have had to buy a sofa for him that helps with his comfort. Unfortunately the sofa from argos has had many faults and has finally been sent back. We have a refund but need to raise more to get a sofa from somewhere other than argos!

I was wondering if we could get a grant to help with this? But ive looked on directgov and they say we are not entitled to as we are on incapacity benefit. Is this correct and if so is there anythng else i can apply for for him?

Many thanks in advance
x

I dont really know if you could get a grant, are you on income support ?.you could apply for a grant, which you dont pay back,if you have a social worker they may help, sorry I cant give you sound advice,I hope you get sorted, I know how you feel my daughter sits really bad on our sofa,we just put different sizes pillows around her as in bed.

Can you try your local freecycle or local charity shops that sell furniture. In my area there is a British Heart Foundation that sells very good quality furniture and we also have a hospice shop selling furniture.

Buying second hand or getting free from freecycle when you are short of money is the best way to go & you're helping the environment by recyling goods that are still in excellent condition.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

hi i see this is an old post, but i thought i would reply any way.

as your husband gets higher rate dla, he is entitled to SPD top up, but to get this you will need to apply for income support as he already gets incap, he will only get a very small amount of income support , but then you can apply for the severe disability premium, and because you then get a small amount of income support , you can then get the grant they do, hope this helps.

there are also loads of benevlolent funds out there , if you or your husband have worked you may be able to apply for one of those. hope this helps and sorry about my spelling , not my strong point LOL
