Conveyancing solicitor in the North East of England

A friend's in the process of selling a flat in the North East. They're looking for a solicitor for conveyancing: were thinking of Sintons or BHP Law (BHP are about £100 cheaper). Dickson Dees are a big firm up there, but they only seem to do commercial. Cinnamon (linked to Pattinsons estate agents) are quite a bit dearer.

If anyone knows solicitors in that area (my friend hasn't been involved with any since buying the flat, and my knowledge of the area could be written on the back of a postage stamp) or has a sense of the rep of these solicitors, that would be really helpful.

I'm using Robert Woods who's based in Low Fell.

Although he can be a bit loud, domineering and boardering on sarcastic sometimes IMO I am confident in his abilities. I'm able to get updates when I need them and he's efficient, and takes the time to explain what's going on when asked.

Also when I was asking for positive recommendations from friends and colleagues his name came up time and time again.

Also I was advised that it is much better to go with a small, local, independant firm than an online company or a large chain.

I just used Mincoff Jacksons, who are in Jesmond, Newcastle.

I was buying a repo, and my convayancing solicitor was well on the ball, and ready to exchange around the 28 day deadline.

Fees for conveyancing on a £100k purchase were £665 inc vat, all in.

They also did the conveyancing on selling my house for £79k, and the fees for that were £335 in vat - this fee was paid by the etsate agent though, as part of the HIP deal.

Thanks all - I'll pass the info on. Any other ideas - or info on BHP Law or Sintons - would be great.
