My laptop that i got is very very slow! I checked the memory and it is only 6Mb (or GB cant remember) anyways its close to death!! I was just wondering how much memory is sufficient to give me a good speed to load web pages and other programs on the laptop etc... Also cost...what is the costing for the memory these days?
Is the memory card easy yo install or do i need to open the laptop case?
Thanks in Advance

6Mb or 6Gb doesn't seem right at all. How did you check the memory? Try, right clicking on the "My Computer" ICON and selecting properties. This should show how much RAM is installed. You probably want between 512MB and 1Gb0 -
erm the Local Disk Tells me that teh capacity is 6.03GB is this what im to look at? Its where the "pie-chart" is
Forget the above......Found it. 64.0MB of RAM.0 -

Ah. That's how much space you have left on the hard disk, which is different from how much memory you have.
Also, the capacity is the total size of the disk, you need to look at how much is free.0 -

Depends how old your laptop is and what operating system you are running. Modern laptops would come with at least 256Mb of RAM.
Might be difficult to get the right type of RAM if it's an old laptop (this is true for desktop PCs, but I'm not sure about laptops).
If your free disk space is low, this can also be a problem0 -

Not sure how old it is to be honest. Probably 4 or 5 years old as it has a sticker on saying Windows 98...ooopsie. I put on Windows Xp pro last night tho. I know there are different types of RAM so how do i find out which RAM to buy for this one?0 -
Go to http://www.crucial.com/uk/ and use the memory advisor tool.0

That explains it. XP won't work with such low memory. Would suggest going back to Windows 98.
Look at http://www.crucial.com/uk/ or http://www.kingston.com/ukroot/ and you might be able to find the memory for your laptop
Also, XP will need a minimum processor type/speed (should tell you somewhere in the documentation with XP disks I think). Again, right click on "MY computer" and select properties. SHould show which processor you have. If your disk is only 6Gb total size, this is probably a bit low for XP as well0
