Epliating

I decided to try this last summer, and have been doing so since then on my legs.

This summer though, I cant see the point of doing it as the hairs start to grow back in just under a week, when I was always under the impression you would get at least 2 weeks and more hair free.

What should I expect? How long is it before your hairs grow back?

Went on holiday for a week, did my legs the day before my first day, and ended up shaving them on day 5, which to me defeats the whole point:confused:

I suppose it depends on your own personal hair growth situation.

If you are lucky (like my mum and sister) You may not have that much to deal with in the first place. I am very hairy like dad and bro and would not really like to rip that many out of my skin on a regular basis. :rotfl:

I shave about twice a week using conditioner as a lubricant, and that's just about enough for me.

Waxing was longer lasting but I got spots. That and having to leave it to grow quite long before re-waxing put me off that too.

Depilatory creams were useful if time consuming, but I've decided it doesnt matter that much so will time my shaves for maximum impact. :D

As Mercy says it's it depends on your own personal hair growth situation.

Its a running joke in my family as I have indian in my blood, I shave, and by the mornin Im hairy again!!!

Shavin gives me a rash and doesnt suit me, but I found with epilation/ waxing after time the hair growth gets slower and the hair is finer, less itchy

Also hair growth does get faster/ slower @ certain times!!

Each hair follicle goes through the growth cycle (growing, dying, resting) at different times.

If you're just starting to remove hair by waxing or epilation this doesn't cause a problem as the vast majority of hairs will be there, ready and waiting to be removed. They will then grow back at more or less the same speed.

If you have already removed hair by shaving or depilatory creams, they will grow at different rates and you will find that they grow back sooner than they should after you wax them.

The solution is to wait until they are mostly all grown through (horrible, I know, but it's a necessary evil!), don't use the epilator as often as you have been or they will never get the chance to synchronise. It is worth it, but doing it that often is actually detrimental :)

As freyasmum says - you need to leave your hair quite a while before epilating.to get the best results. This is why I only use it on my bikini line and upper legs - under arms and lower legs I shave. Bikini and upper legs leaves me smooth enough for at least three weeks. What pops through in the mean time is ususally fine enough to ignore

Slowly over time the hair growth will slow down, become sparser.

I just prefer to use the epilater over waxing because I can do it every couple of weeks in my own time - not find time to book an appointment

I have to eplilate at least once a week (wow what a hairy beast ;))
My leg hair all seems to grow at different rates so whilst others haven't grown back there are others lurking there.
There was another thread similar to this and someone recommended using these to help with ingrowing hairs

What this mitt also does is exfoliate away some of the smaller stubbly hairs so I feel a bit smoother for longer, especially if I use it every day.

And even better they are buy one get one half price so you can stock up pretty cheap.

I was tricked into buying one by believing the advert - no hair for up to 4 weeks. :D Had to use it weekly and was painfull so I sold it on Ebay and went back to shaving. And I am not that hairy. :D
  • Yes mine also ended up on ebay, it had one of those ice packs to ease the pain but was just too painful to use and I never seemed to get used to the sensation! also i was only hair free for about a week, team shaving for me!

As already explained above, this is because you need to start from a level playing field - ie let the hair grow for six weeks before your first epilate. Same as when you go for your first waxing - they ask for a good 4 to 6 week growth

it'll take a few months of epilating before you notice the growth rate slow slightly.
i make sure i use a body scrub/exfoliate before i epilate. a silky mitt (like an emery board but for skin), on some areas if needed, and i use a hair minimising lotion just after i epilate. if there's any growth within 5 days i will shave -
oh and it's best to epilate around days other than period days as your pain threshold is higher/less sensitive to pain.
i heard that if you take the pill that could increase rate of hair growth as you are giving youre body progestron (sp.?) male hormone. (not so sure of this though).

I found that epilating took ages to do? It took me about half an hour to get all of the hairs from just one lower leg, I couldn't be doing with that every time! It seemed that with every pass there were loads of hairs left behind, and I'm not massively hairy!

The result was good but it's just the time it took so I went back to shaving as it's so much quicker.

How long is it supposed to take, does that sound about right? or have I just got really tough hairs??

    xx
