Can't find laptop on network

Bought DD a new laptop and connected it to the internet through the wireless router. On the network page, her laptop can see mine but mine can't see hers. I would like to set up some parental controls, but I am getting a message telling me the new laptop isn't connected. What have I done wrong? Both laptops are running Vista.
I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

are you setting up the parental controls on the router or on her Laptop ??
her firewall may be blocking you from seeing itEx forum ambassador

Thank you for the quick reply.
I'm setting them up on the whole network, with my laptop as the administrator. It could be the firewall - I've just realised that I can't see the old desk top either. Both have Zone Alarm, but my laptop hasn't. How do I get round this?
ETA I've got her to shut ZA down, but it's still not showing.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

shut all firewalls apart from the Vista/XP ones
this can be used on each machine
