Welcome Finance - Abusive Phone Call

Can anyone advise who I should complain to to make the maximun complaint about this?

Out of the blue my other half got a phone call from someone asking for the telephone number of a friend.
When my OH asked for more info before giving the number out the person got a bit ratty & demanded the number, refusing to give anymore detail

This went on & on until this person got so annoyed they swore at my OH & slammmed the phone down.

Chasing the number up 0191 261 8339 I find its welcome finance.
We are very concerened about this as we are unsure why they have our number, why they would expect us to pass on details of a friend & why they would swear down the phone on an unsolicited call.

any help would be appreciated

  • Hmmmmm lovley Welcome Finance:mad:

Did your friends take a loan out with them, they sometimes ask for Friend/Family details when they sign up for a loan in case they cannot contact them if they do not pay, cant be sure but if they have your friends details it may be the case!!

    Hope this helps

Would you say the telephone call was "indecent, offensive or threatening"? It certainly sounds offensive.

If so then it's likely to be an offence: http://www.harassment-law.co.uk/ and you should report it to the police. Make sure you have the time and date of the call too.

(I think a bit of delicate handling of the situation with your friend is required too, which could be a bit embarrassing for them).

    thanks for the replies

turns out they asked our friend for details of next of kin in the case of emergency - sneaky.

I did call them back & got all the details of the compamy & will report it to the police, FSA & to their MD shortly.

checking on the net & this forum too they don't have a great reputation for being ethical

Sounds like some fairly heavy abuse there.

I really don't know how you sleep at night.

Next time I hear someone moaning about getting beaten up, raped, molested or tortured, I'll direct them to this thread to put things into perspective for them. That'll shut them up!

You really are trying to get PPR'd, aren't you?

Report it to the Office of Fair Trading, they are in breach of their credit licence, obviously you need to have some proof to back this up.

But regardless, make a complaint with the OFT.

Did you not see that C4 program about debt collectors. The guy rang the sister or something of the debtor and said they from solictors and needed to speak to the debtor urgently and did they have the work number. They gave it and this guy starting calling this person at work. But also they proved they were working (they claimed they weren't).
I only watched a bit of it though as I can't stand it when they film something and then have an "expert" who goes through everthing pulling it apart. I am sure that if any person was watched working fault could be found. Also I hated the one sided thing of it ignoring all the underhand things these debtors do to get out of paying the money back. Also their whining got on my nerves because of course it wasn't their fault they owed all this money. Just pay the money back and shut up. Anyway I only could bear to watch 10mins of it and watched Big Brother instead which just wound me up even more.

The DCA guy also tried to harangue the debtor's employer for daring to employ someone who has defaulted on their debt repayments. We only heard one side of the phone conversation, but I got the feeling the employer told him to mind his own business, so to speak.

I may be wrong but I got the impression the debtor had lied to the loan company or collectors or whatever saying they weren't working. I think the guy was suggesting that the employee was a dishonest person and would you want to employ someone who lied?
