Best (Cheapest) Bathroom Flooring

Hi all,

Had the plumber in today as water was leaking though the floor/ceiling between bathroom and kitchen. The problem is completely rectified but we want to sort out new flooring. Currently there is carpet in there, which I hate, was in when we bought the house. As it is its damp through to the floorboards, so we'd like to put something a little more bathroom friendly in.

Can anybody recommend the best flooring for the bathroom, as cheaply as possible?

Downstairs and main bedroom is laminate, stairs, hallway and second bedroom are carpeted.

The best and the cheapest aren't often the same - if you want something cheap, easily replaced and water resistant then cushion vinyl would do the job. Tiles come in a huge range of prices but can be cold...

i tiled my small bathroom floor for under 50 quid from BQ.

For a cheap and easy bathroom floor I'd definitely vote vinyl - for a small bathroom you could pick up a roll end and although it's a little fiddly to fit around your sanitary ware you can still lay it in just a few moments.

My tip is don't throw or cut up the carpet - take it up and use it as a template to cut the vinyl from. Also if you have a pedastal sink, you might be able to just move the pedastal for a moment and run the vinyl right underneath rather than cutting round it.

Even if you buy something brand new off the roll in a carpet shop, it still won't cost much.

If it's damp all the way through to the floorboards, wouldn't the plywood layer need replacing too?

The extra cost/hassle might make a laminate floor more sensible. At least that's what the bloke in Tile Depot told my OH, although I don't trust him an inch.
