I give up

So I get refused for a virgin credit card today. Now my credit record is pretty good - (3 cards under a grand, 1 small loan) no missed payments, earn 26k, no CCJs, no searches in 6 months. I phoned up Virgin and asked the reasons as to why ? They said they would love to offer me a card but they cannot because they only offer cards to customers who have history of having credit cards at over 1k limits - arrrrghhhhhhh. And yes I have tried increasing limits on other cards but get the standard 'we'll contact you when the computer decides your worthy'....But why arent I worthy ???? Vicious annoying circle.

First of all have you checked your credit report?

    Some further questions...

Are you on the Electoral Roll?

Do you have a financial association with anyone else?

    Do you own/rent/live with parents?

Have you changed address often over the last 6 years?

    Have you changed jobs often/recently?

All of the above go into the credit scoring mix, and any 'negatives' are generally compounded, in a kind of reverse synergy.

Bad luck, but thanks for posting. Your feedback helps to alert others.
(I hope those forum users, who regularly advise others to reduce credit limits which are already modest, are paying attention.)

For tips to improve your chances of credit card acceptance, have a look at the *Credit Rating: how it works and how to improve it guide* especially Martin's *Manage and Improve your credit score* article ;)

To help you further, we would need to know which three credit cards you have at the mo.

Are you on the Electoral Roll? yep

Do you have a financial association with anyone else? nope

Do you own/rent/live with parents? rent - unfurnished

Have you changed address often over the last 6 years? - Ive lived there for 4 years 6 months.

Have you changed jobs often/recently? 5 years at same place.

I guess I will have to find a way of paying off my existing cards in full every month in hope of getting an increase limit.

My 3 credit cards - barclaycard, vanquis, cap one. I appreciate these are sub prime cards. A default got removed last year and my rating 2 years ago wasnt great (hence the cards i have now). But my recent history of 1 year is near perfect.

I check my report regularly with Experia. All greens (except for one missed cc payment 10 months ago).

Sorry to rant, just feeling a bit fraustrated by all this. I appreciate credit isnt a right but its annoying when you earn a decent wage and are in a fairly good position but are treated like someone whos practically bankrupt.

Apply for citi card and they should give you a 1k limit, then close the vanquis and cap1 down.
