Hi
I have designed a website using Serif WebPlus and now I want to publish it online. I have a domain name and host (Heart Iinternet). I followed the instructions about publishing using FTP and it said it was uploaded fine
But it's not there! The help section says this often happens because port 20 is blocked by my firewall (Norton). How do I unblock it?!?!
Thanks
Emma

What FTP client did you use? Does it have a log file you can check?0

Not sure how to configure Norton, but you need TCP port 21 allowed TO the FTP site and TCP/20 allowed FROM the FTP site (21 is the control port and 20 is the actual data path). To be honest, it's best not to manually open up port 20 - most firewalls will dynamically open port 20 if you designate "FTP" as being allowed - note that may not be the case if you've simply allowed port 21, rather than a pre-defined FTP service.
Alternatively, you could try using "passive mode". In Internet Explorer, go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced tab: set the option to Use Passive FTPYou've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
I don't know what client I used !
I just clicked on 'publish to web' on WebPlus and then filled in the details that Heart internet told me to put in (FTP Server name: ftp.emmascards.co.uk and then my user name and password).
Any clues as to what I have done?!

Probably uploaded to the wrong directory. If it said it uploaded or didn't give errors, then the issue is not your firewall. Double-check where you uploaded it. You'll often have a 'www' or 'htdocs' directory that you need to upload to. The first directory you get placed into on login is your home, and not necessarily the root of your webspace.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
