thought i would just share how easy it can be to get a discount, son wanted a mobile for his birthday argos, £109.00, tried the local independant over the road, didnt have it on O2 only vodaphone at £90, however for the frist time in my life i asked if he would do a deal if paid cash (was really embarresed) He asked what kid of deal and i offered £80 and asked if he could unlock it which they normally charge £10-15 for, coudnt believe he accepted so saved £30 by not using argos and knocked £20 off him with the free unlocking, kids were mortified, me i was as smug as i could be. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

It certainly pays to ask, after all, they can only say no........ :TWhat if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0

Never be to embarrased to ask. I reccntly saw a Hello Kitty toy i liked, but thought the price was too high. (was just a local store) Dressed in my Hello Kitty T-Shirt it was obvious I was a fan, but the item was really dusty, like it had been in the shop for ages, so with the price at £13.99 I asked if they would let me have it for £10 as it had obvioulsy been in the shop for ages. They said no, so I said fine. Their loss. But it never hurts to ask.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

I agree I always ask, I think most people expect to be asked about money off now a days. Sellers are probably happy to get rid of items rather then lose a sale.0 -
Sounds like a good day0

Haha, fantastic! This is what it's all about! At the end of the day, what have you got to lose by asking? Well done you0

Well done, OP! Always ask with a smile, I do and have saved £s. Mind you, my wife always walks off and leaves me to ask but is then pleased that I had.0

I'm all for haggling - it's a great thing to do.
However, I have to say, people who haggle to brickwalls are really annoying. Imagine this scene in the mobile shop I work in...
Me: That's £17.50.
Customer: You'll do it for £15?
Me: I can't, I'm afraid.
Customer: Nah, c'mon mate, do it for £15.
Me: I'm sorry, I really can't. My boss would kill me. I have to charge what the ticket says.
Customer: F**k the boss. He's not around is he? I've got £15 here and now.
Me: No, I really can't.
Customer: You don't get this, do you?
Me: I understand exactly what's going on, and I'm refusing your haggling attempt.
Customer: But I can buy it from <competitor shop> for £10.
Me: Why don't you go to them, then? They're only across the road.
Customer: They haven't got any.
Me: So you can't buy one from them?
Customer: Well, no. But will you do it for me for £10?
Me: No, it's £17.50.
Customer: £15 then?
Me: Please leave.
Customer: Fine. I'm not shopping here again.
Me: Great to hear. Have a nice day!
<10 minutes passed>
Customer: Hi. I need to buy that <item>. £17.50, wasn't it?
Me: Sorry, I've got none left. All sold out.
Customer: But it's just there.
Me: No it's not. I just sold the last one.
Customer: But I want to buy it! I can see it!
Me: It's £50.
Customer: But it says £17.50.
Me: £30.
Customer: You have to sell it to me for £17.50.
Me: No I don't.
Customer: Yes you do.
Me: Says who?
Customer: The price ticket.
Me: Fine. That's £17.50 please.
Customer: Here you go. Can I have a bag?
Me: They're £2.50.
Customer: But you gave that woman a free bag.
Me: Bags are £2.50 now.
Customer: Give you 10p for it.
Me: Done.
I put the 10p in the charity box, by the way0 -

I so see where you are coing from on that one. I work in sales and i have targets to meet. to keep my job.
I will help a customer to the nth degree but they have to realise sometimes our hands are tied, sometimes i will give people more discount though if i like em or they are polite or realise that i have a job to do am a human being and are willing to work with me.
The people who are rude or tell me i have to give them money off, get nothing because a discount is a bonus and not a given. It does however never hurt to ask or be a bit cheeky but after someone has refused twice you should probably give up trying to haggle as a bad job.
:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T
Well done to money savers for bagging the discounts though and keep on trying.0 -
Well done OP!0
