renting in a new area

my boyfriend has just accepted a job in Banbury so we'll need to find a flat to rent however neither of us have lived remotely near the area and although we've both rented as students we're a little lost when it comes to professional renting in a new area. any advice or help on how to go about this big life change would be very much appreciated
