Ccna

Options
Hi peeps,

I'm currently working for an ISP, and I'm probably going to opt for voluntary redundancy this Tuesday because we're being relocated.

I'm looking to put the money to good use, and I've got my heart set on getting a CCNA. The problem is I don't even know where to begin.

What should my first steps be? How much should I be looking to spend? Who should I take the course with etc etc?

'elp!

Thanking you in advance ...

Couldn't you look for another job, with training possibilities, and get them to pay for it? Training courses aren't cheap! The paper qualification may open up doors, but experience (or eagerness to learn) is more important in my book.

That's possible, but there's no guarantee I'll get a job straight away, so I need to look at the worst case scenario (which is going solo), so any pointers for a n00b would be appreciated. I'll check out that link too.
  • Some university degree's allow you to take CCNA's and MCSE's optionally completely free of charge.

Im at stafford studying a network computing bsc. In year 1 we've done CCNA 1 and 2. Next year we do 3 and 4 as well as CCNP 1 and 2. We then can optionally do an MCE on top of this :)

SO maybe a visit to a university as a mature student could be a good option? That way your paying as much as you would for all those courses, plus your getting a degree as well as the qualifications as well as work experience (depending on the degree type.. mines a 4 year sandwhich with 1 year working)

    Good luck

with the ccna you can take it in eather 2 parts or as a oner. so you can learn the intro part first pass exam then go on to the icnd after that. i did a weeks intense course with a company called global knowledge. it teaches you everything about the subject but you need to do the pre work they send you first or the pace will be too quick.
  • HBC Academy

HBC Academy are a Cisco Regional Networking Academy, a non-profit organisation who are dedicated to educating people of all ages and from all walks of life in various IT areas. They are also partnered with OCR and several other training organisations and IT companies throughout the UK. And are currently operating in the UK and parts of Africa.
They also have a prometric test centre, so you won't have to go elsewhere to take any exams after having done some training.

They'll be starting a popular Microsoft course in Feb, MCDST.
They also do webhosting, webbuilding (+ courses for it), security cameras & remote control, etc. etc.

They also have several projects where they get government funding, to train single parents, to empower SME (up to 249 staff), etc.

Just give them a call to get some info.
    They're worth checking out!
