Best way to sell a laptop?

Basically I have got a rather large laptop I want to sell, I first I thought about ebay but then worried about the amount of scams (its worth £500-£600).
Basically I would prefer the item collected, preferable checked before it goes so there is no arguements.
What options do i have? I know of gumtree but have never used it, what about loot or local papers?
What experience do people have of this?

Thers scams on Gumtree and could be in the local papers as well. So you will take a calculated risk wherever you sell. Wherever you sell you just need to make sure you describe fully (lots of photos if its a place where they can view). I have had more problems with Add papers than anything else
I've sold stuff like this on ebay with very few problems you just have to be tight with your preferences and make sure your listing is accurate. its a risk wherever you sell its just a case of minimizing them and doing your research0 -
Make a note of all serial nimbers and mention that all removable items(memory, battery etc) have been invisibly marked at your insurance companies request.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

The thing what worries me with ebay is that I have to offer paypal, hence they could collect and I can't prove delivery and get a chargeback.
Surely if I insist on cash on collection it can't go to far wrong.
Could have it running prove all specs are what i said they where and it works, they hand over cash. Everybody is happy?Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

You can ask for cash on collection but you can't insist on it, that is the problem with ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thats one of the other reasons I wont do collection. The buyer can insist on Paypal for collection items because it has to be offered.0 -
So assuming I can insist on what I like on gumtree, I could go with collection only.
I am an experienced sell on ebay so I have problems with getting the describtion right, could I say "cash on collection only, paypal payments will be refunded"?. The problem then is I am going down the line of another post in here "what puts you off an ebay listing".
As much as I usually trust people on ebay this is too much money to lose, I know not to send to a nigerian prince etc. Out you do hear of argos catalogues gettings sent back or them getting sent back with parts missing etc.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

On ebay you can't refuse a paypal payment and any suggestion that you will from your auction may get your auction pulled.
On Gumtree they actually suggest cash on a face to face deal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. TBH if you put in your description cash on collection it is highly unlikely they will still pay by paypal if they are genuine and intend to collect.....but to safeguard yourself make a collection receipt (print one out) and ask them to show you id and sign it, ideally a driving license and you can record their driving license number as security and evidence to paypalEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Gumtree only 'allow' Cash on Collection and posting on there is free, so would strongly recommend them. NEVER ACCEPT ANY PAYPAL/OTHER ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS THROUGH GUMTREE though. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

I don't really have anything to lose trying gumtree first I suppose.
Any tips/tricks for listing on gumtree? or will my ebay listing skills be enough?
I know I am genuine and all being well I would get a genuine buyer, I guess a lot of transactions are fine on ebay for laptops. There is always the risk factor where cash on collection can't go to far wrong.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
