Natwest bank charges. HELP

I shall try to explain my situation as best as I can.

Basically, last month I bought some items using paypal. I miscalculated my finances and didnt have enough in the bank to pay off the £30 paypal wanted. But they still kept trying to take it from my bank, in fact 5 times in a few days. They wouldn't stop trying, over and over, I logged onto paypal and found no way to stop it either.
When the 1st of July hit, I obviously had the money in there to pay it back. But I looked high and low over ebay and paypals website and it showed that I owed them nothing. Very odd, I assumed it was paid up and still now there has been no more attempts to take it from my bank.
This month has been tight so I had about £20 left in my bank with a further £30 to come from something I sold off ebay to be able to get money to pay for bus fares to work. I sign on my natwest bank to see if the £30 is in yet and discover to my horror Natwest have kindly taken a whopping £74 off me, leaving me currently at -£54. So even with my £30 coming I won't even hit £0 let alone pay for my bus fairs and others bits I NEED for the rest of the month.

I first got a letter explaining this charge on the 19th Jun. But nowhere on the letter does it mention how much the charge will be. Then I get £74 taken off me and my online banking says its for UNPAID ITEM FEE , 29JUN.

I honestly don't know what to do as that money was vital in transport to and from work. I've gone from £50 to -£50 in a day.

I dont mean to sound negative however its not natwests error.

They will be very relucatant to refund you any charges under these circumstances.

However if you feel paypal as made the error then you should be looking at paypal to refund your charges not natwest.

If you use online banking you can view the amounts and dates of which the charges will debit your account by going to statements and Pre-advice of Interest and Charges.

From what I can see, Paypal tried to take money out of my account on the 15th, 16th and 17th of Jun. Isnt that a tad excessive?

Also, these charges, according to the website natwest are charging me for only 2 direct debit failures. How come its £74?

Not if the money is owed.

That bit is interesting since the figure should be £76
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
