    Hi Emma b

I have a breadmaker and I love it, if it broke I would have to get another one right away. I use it every day, twice today, I made a wholemeal loaf and pizza dough. You know just what is in homemade bread and it tastes so much nicer than shop bought. It is not hard to make, just follow the instructions I don't need to follow the recipe now I've used it so much. Go for it!

Absolutely love ours - I know how much salt etc goes into a loaf and believe it to be healthier. We bake about 5 out of & days a week and I think it works out cheaper than buying bread although I am not sure how much electricity I use (economy 7). Have had it over two years and it is by far our most used kitchen gadget.

I find it more convenient to make bread by hand. That way I can make 3 or 4 loaves at a time and I also know exactly what's in it.Yesterday I made a batch of dough and used one third for pizza for 5 and the rest to make 2 loaves.I love the flexibility hand baking gives me.

I've used my Goodmans breadmaker a few times now..the results are ok, but not brilliant.
I like the lovely soft stretchy bread that you get from 'proper' bakeries, but my loaves are always rather crumbly and 'cake-y' in texture.
    Anyone got any tips??
    thanks

I couldn't imagine life without it now! It really makes *ordinary* everyday bread cheaper and nicer. It does take a bit of organising to make sure you have bread when you need it but basically it's better all round. The only trouble is that I eat more of it just because it's there are so good!

I love my breadmaker!!! It broke a couple of months ago, and it was horrible to have to go back to shop bought bread, so i went and bought a new one!!!! I love the fact that i can make pizza bases and bread rolls as well as bread, and the children love the fact that we have pizza more often!!!

we're about to have our kitchen ripped out - and it's not just a matter of putting in new units, we're talking digging up the concrete floor rebuilding walls - the lot. So I will be camping in the house for weeks and cooking will be basic. But one thing I insisted on was somewhere I could plug in my Panny breadmaker. Once you have one you really can't go back to shop bought bread.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

It seems that a lot of people in this board couldn't do without their breadmakers. However, like thriftlady I bake by hand. I don't think breadmakers can match the results you get from being able to adjust the ingredients, proving time, baking temperature yourself. Also, you don't get that awful hole in the bottom :)

Still, I understand not everyone has the time (or the inclination!) for such anachronistic practices in this modern age.* You can only do what suits your lifestyle and the time available.

*Taste the naturally-leavened hot cross buns I made today, though, and you might change your mind ;)

They are OK if you don't pay too much. Therefore, if you only use it now and then, no big deal. I have seen them at 79.99, that would make me think twice! But john Dyas (not sure if I am allowed to mention the name, but doing so for moneysaving reasons only -don't know anyone who works for this company) currently has one for 29.99. I have given that a go, and it seems OK. I have made bread by hand, like some of the people who have responded here, over many years, on and off. However, if you have a draughty kitchen like mine, it ain't always easy in the winter! The breadmaker gets over this problem.
