Totally agree that Silver Screen is a Con and is why they have gone into administration.
Their prices are hugely ridiculous and there apparent offers are often usually the worst out there. "10% off full prce dvds" with titles such as Fight Club priced at £19.99. I would expect this DVD to be around £3.99 if not at most £7.99. TV season boxsets are never at the £20 mark which is the max level I would think most would pay for titles such as 24, Alias, Smallville, The OC etc
I collect DVDs and have over 2000 in my house. I however have bought probably only 2 of my 2000 dvds from Silverscreen despite visiting my local store or at least walking past the store every week. I guess as they only get there income solely on DVD's then they cant really give them away. However as they only sell DVDs you would expect them to be the cheapest on the high street due their more foused buying power.
Its like Game stores for computer games. I rarely ever buy a game there and have nearly every Xbox/ PS2 and GC title ever released (except of course the really really poor games) in my collection.
No loss imo if they vanish.
The high street is in general a dying marketplace. Buying off the internet is the way forward and I dont mean the online sites of the high street stores (HMV, woolworths, dixons etc) as these are equally bad as their physical stores for price0
