Horse Hair for Copper Pipes?

Hi All
We recently fit our own heating pipes and had our boiler installed and signed off by a qualified plumber.
When testing the boiler we noticed our pipes were expanding and banding against certain areas of timber where we'd laid the pipes in the joists.
Our plumber suggested removing the clips and wrapping the pipes in horse hair insulation.
My question is, what is this horse hair stuff, does it have another name as i can't seem to find anything online which is close!
Our old heating pipes have this stuff wrapped around them but i dont want to recycle this as a lot of it is horrid.
Thanks

It's called hair felt. Comes in rolls approx 10cm wide and a few metres long, is brown in colour and about 5mm thick. Think of old fashioned underfelt for carpets (if you're as old as me
) and it looks like a thinner version of that cut into strips.
We've recently bought some, recommended by a CH chap (not the one who fitted our CH, but someone who came to finish off a little job and we asked him how to cure the knocking), to wrap around our central heating pipes which were knocking and driving us mad! We got ours from a local plumbers merchants. Works very well as long as you wrap enough round.0 -

Thanks TomsMom!
The banging was very annoying! We made sure we clipped the pipes down well but I think once they expand when heating, they then cause the banging! Hopefully this should do the trick and we can sort it before putting the floor boards back!
Thanks again guys!
PS TomsMom - I've been following the rennovations thread and often take a peek at your blog, you've done a great job!
