Blocked Cast Iron Down Pipe: Advice?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on a problem I have with my drains? My bathroom drains lead out to the front of my mid-terrace, down a cast iron pipe into the pavement and under this into the middle of the road. Its blocked and I dont know what I can do.

The problem is I have no access to see where the blockage maybe or to get a rod down there. The cast iron pipe has no inspection hatch and there are no visible drains other than the one 50m down the road! Judging by the amount of water I can put down before it backs up the blockage is either where the downpipe curves into the underground pipe or in the underground pipe itself which meets with main sewer.

Can i cut a hole in this to rod myself, but then how do i make good afterwards? Maybe I should call a professional, does any one have ideas how much this would cost?

Thanks for reading and any advice is grealy appreciated :)

Cheers,
Rik

If it's the 'soil pipe' you're talking about, where it goes up above the gutter, it may have some sort of cage on it, could you not get a rod in there ?
I'm not a plummer, i don't know, but i'd imagine any blockage would be more likely to be near a bend rather than on a straight.
Again i don't know but once the pipes are off your property, you say they they are in the street, does'nt this become the responsibility of the council or water company ??

if the toilet backs up as water comes up to the top try using a rod with a round rubber on the end down the toilet push it in and out rapidly if you havent got a rod use a old fashioned mop the ones that look like a wig make sure lhe wc pan is quite full when you do it as it will compress the blockage and push it out if this dosent work call the experts
    hope this helps
