    Hi Chris

Thought you'd got lost in the jungle or something. I'm having a good night, just had a nice relaxing bath and listening to Babes in Toyland CD, what could be better :)

That's the tree...couldn't rembember the name of it...

I always find OH watching WW programmes when I get home from work...I've probably learnt more about WW1/2 in the past couple of months than I have ever known...have to say ...some of the programmes have been really good...very interesting and thought provoking...

Drinking has been ok the past 3 weeks or so actually....not saying I haven't....but I have been so full of cold/sinusitis/bad back from falling down the sodden stairs (stone cold sober btw:rolleyes: )... that I really haven't felt like it much....when I have...can't say that I enjoyed it :o ..which is probably whY I haven't gone overboard...which is a good thing:D

My emotions were ALL OVER THE PLACE last week...OMG!!! I was actually tearful about where I am in life (I generally don't get like that...I'm one of those stoic people...stubborn as anything..just get on with it....)/what I wanted to do...I don't bloody know???...and feeling trapped etc....next day I was telling myself to give me a kick up the bum and get on with it...funny what a difference a bit of time makes??

I'm sure you will be fine....just don't make any rash/badly thought out decisions while you are feeling like this eh?

  • Hi

I'm looking for some advice from you guys. Just under a year ago a friend in work revealed that he has had a drinking problem that started nearly 20 years ago - he is now 50. He had tried to go cold turkey but had got some pills off the internet to provide the "hit" that he was missing. I suspected something was up as he had taken quite alot of them and god knows what was in them! His speech was slurred and I actually thought he had had a stroke it was that bad! Anyway, he's been seeing a counsellor on and off since then, and seemed to be doing fairly well. But the Christmas festivities put a lot of pressure on him as most people in work don't know and he has started to take over the counter pills - Neurofen plus I think - as these have quite a lot of codeine. He's back at the counsellor but I don't know what he tells him. His family situation isn't the best either as I think he just doens't discuss things with his wife - but if I notice something's wrong she must. ALthough he says he's not taking anything now, his speech is still not normal and its as if he's a second or two behind everyone else when he's talking and answering questions. I'm beginning to dread him coming into work as other people are starting to ask if he's ok. Is htere anything I can say or do that would help ? Thanks

I'm here, I've just been very busy.

Well done on the 2 days Rose.

Crystal, I don't know what to suggest, if he's seeing a counsellor then presumably things are moving in the right direction. I have no idea what the pills he is taking are and I can't see how nurofen would help.
I mean what do you want to tell him? Tell him to stop taking the pills, to carry on not drinking......... what more can you say?
Try to help him, but as you are not his wife, I don't see how you can tbh.

Maybe someone else will think of something, but dropping pills to not drink, is not something I have had experience of.

i m not sure nurofen have codene in them anymore do they? they used to have i know that as you could bite the codine part off. has he been buying more pills off the internet? a benzo of some kind? they make you slow. if he's going to see some1 already maybe he needs the help of another alcoholic or addict. try NA or CA. also there will be some1 in AA that has done the same. i have but i have not brought any off the net. i used to blag the doctor.

i would suggest asking him that. and telling hi8m people are starting to notice. maybe stop (if you) are making excuse's for him. he maybe thinks its normal to take what ever it is for alcoholics.
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

    Hi Crystaltipps

Yes, I'd suggest too that you mention to him that people are starting to notice and tell him how concerned you are about him. Encourage him to get some help and be supportive of any help he does get. But then I feel you will have to leave him to it, I don't think there's anything else you can do.

    Take care
