Ebay Annoyance

Just bought something for the Mrs on ebay, and I received this email;
Once your item arrives in satisfactory condition, please leave feedback for
us. We will do the same for you.

This really really annoys me. As the buyer I've done my bit, I'VE PAID! You should give me IMMEDIATE feedback!!! Instead of waiting to see if I give you good feedback!

Lol! I don't believe, as a seller or a buyer, in asking for f/b. But, as a seller, I want to know that the customer is happy, and not going to pull some stunt, before I leave f/b for them. As a buyer, I always leave f/b as soon as I've received the item and am happy.

All I ask my buyers to do is let me know when the item arrives and they are happy (not necessarily by f/b, but by mail) - as soon as I know that they are happy, I then leave f/b for them.
I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.

Agreed - I do just the same. A sellers dealings with the buyer arnt finished once the buyer has paid.

yep, feedback should IMO be a reflection of the transaction as a whole, and as a buyer I always leave feedback as soon as the item has arrived and I am happy, and as a seller I wait until the buyer has left feedback for me.

I know when I first started ebaying it was said that leaving feedback was your indication that the transaction was complete.

I used to leave feedback on payment, but nowadays I wait until the buyer has left me feedback.

This is actually the correct order in the Ebay menus IIRC.

It protects against nuisance buyers who cause problems when an item arrives.

No chance, that's just covering your back incase the item goes missing in the post or something and they write some nasty stuff about you - so you can write nasty stuff back!
Why on earth should the buyer have to wait to receive feedback untill they have given what the seller sees as satisfactory feedback?

The transaction should be complete when the buyer (having already received the feedback for their part) leaves feedback to say the item arrived fine etc etc (in my humble opinion ;) )

You leave feedback once the transaction is complete. Buyer pays, then seller sends item, then if there are any problems buyer contacts seller to resolve. I've had items go missing and I refund the buyer. However, one or two will not contact to explain problem, I've had one person leave me negative with no attempt whatsoever to contact me. I don't leave feedback until the whole process is finished. Yes, to protect against unreasonable buyers doing silly things.

Sellers won't leave immediate feedback incase the buyer is a nutter! If you read through this ebay board you'll see there are buyers who instigate chargebacks for ridiculous reasons. Paypal payments are also sometimes taken back if a buyer has used a stolen card. Just because a buyer has paid immediately doesn't mean that the money won't be taken back the next day.

I had one buyer who left me negative feedback and tried to get money back from me because I sold her a video with a crack in the box. I had clearly stated in the auction that I was selling the video cheaply because "although the video cassette is in mint condition, there is a crack in the box". Can you imagine how annoyed I would have been if I had left her glowing feedback about how quickly she had paid?

You are rating the entire transaction (quality of goods, swiftness of payment/delivery, behaviour of seller/buyer) so both parties should wait until the transaction is completed.

As a seller I always leave feedback after the buyer has done. As a buyer I always expect to leave feedback first and I am happy to do that.

As soon as a buyer we pays we leave them +FB thanking for prompt payment, should we wait until they leave FB first then?? (I'm not with it this morning, so please bear with me!)
    thanks

Obviously I see where you're coming from (Tom) ; but back to the original point - people saying stuff like "I'll leave you feedback when you leave me it" - I still believe the seller should leave feedback first and that kind of comment tacked onto auctions really annoys me! It just seems sort of unscrupulous to me, "even though you've done your bit fine, I'm not going to admit that untill my bit has been done and I'm satisfied with your opinion" - You say its to protect the seller, but I feel like I'm being held to ransom, if I give an honest opinion say "item came quite slowly and was in poor condition" then they can just go "lies, buyer didn't pay for ages etc"

As for the person above, I should buy from you I think!

Esoog, are you just a buyer, or do you sell as well?

If you have not sold things on ebay before, then when you do, and when trouble arises, you will understand why we wait until the buyer leaves FB first. Until that day, i dont think you will ever truly understand.
