blockage in the line???!!

hi all,
im with vm and iv had a crackly phone line since we got the line put in and today my phones gone dead...iv got a technician coming out on sat and iv been told iv got a blockage in the line...could this be the reason for the crackling and what causes it??

Someone's having a laugh at your expense.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

iv just spoke to tech support - the blockage in the line could be to do with the wiring in the box outside.0
