I had a call from Citi card this morning.I paid them a couple of days late this month.Never happened before.Anyway she asked if I was having any financial difficulties, things are tighter than usual but I always manage to pay my bills.
I said things were okay and I didnt forsee paying late again. She went on to tell me they could offer me a reduced repayment for up to 6 months, frozen interest and a smaller monthly repayment.I was asked again if I was sure I didnt want some assistance.Well I though a little interest holiday was nice of them so I took her up on it in the end.
Now I am wondering if I may have srewed up my perfectly good credit rating by accepting their generous offer of no interest for 6 months. Will it be recorded as some sort of voluntary debt management thing?Have I done wrong?

  • I just thought interest frozen for any time must be a good thing,is it?I mean I could pay extra to the card and clear it within the 6 months with the cash which would have went on interest.

Your best bet is to phone them back (ideally during office hours) and ask them to confirm if their unsolicited offer to allow you to pay less for 6 months will be reported in any way to the credit reference agencies now or in the future - as obviously you jealously guard your impeccable credit history. Be sure to note the name of the person you speak to, their team number, the date and time of the call. You can also check your credit report online yourself once this is all in place and see for yourself to be on the safe side.
