4 people, 1 long weekend, £500. Possible?

Hello!
for my 21st birthday, my dad has given me a budget of £500 to take myself, my partner, my sister and her partner away somewhere nice.
Friday 4th September upto Wednesday 9th September latest
ferry ports we can leave from are Dover or Portsmouth
airports, southampton/eastleigh or gatwick
I'm not interested in clubbing or anything like that, I'm into photography, so somewhere picturesque would be ideal, we're up for camping if it saves money, we are able to take a car if we were to get a ferry.
The best I/ve come up with so far is camping at Dune de Pyla, but we've already done that years ago.. & we don't want to waste too much time travelling, ie no more than say.. 15 hours there & back, as it's only for a few days!
Any ideas?

Barcelona is nice and cultured.
Ryanair are quoting just over £230 for 4 return flights, Gatwick To Girona ( No bags ).
That leaves you with £270 for accomodation and transfers etc... that can be done I reckon !!0 -
:bdaycake:I've been looking at something similar just last week for my daughter, son, and 2 friends, in September.
Found 4 return flights with ryanair stansted to Toulon(£47 each), then local buses to Port Grimaud , just outside of St Tropez, so about an hours journey on the bus.
I have found accomodation with a French company, for £200 for the week, which is an absolute bargain.
The coastline around there is quite stunning, so would definately appeal to the photographer in you.
I would definately look at Ryanair and see what cheap flights you can get, they often work out better than the ferries, and you dont have the hassle of driving there, then try to work out a good deal on accomodation.
I was getting quotes of over £600 for accomodation at first, but a little searching on Google and I found what I wanted.
Have a lovely birthday0 -
If you can use Southampton is Bournemouth also an airport option in case there are any cheap flights from there or too far?0

Thank you for the replies

How much does it cost for bags on a ryanair flight then? Forgive my ignorance.. I'm on my phone so can't look easilly!
Loobyloo can I ask whether the accomodation you've found is a hotel or apartment or something else?
and yes Bournemouth is also an option, I live between Portsmouth and Brighton so the south & southeast are both in easy reach for travel
so does flying usually work out cheaper then?

I think Ryanair charge about £16 per bag that you want to put in the hold. Flying can sometimes work out cheaper, especially when you factor in things like European breakdown cover and petrol etc (petrol is about the same price in France as in the UK now). I take it the £500 is just for flights/ferry and accommodation? My partner and I budget that for a weekend in the UK!
Saying that - have you thought about Scotland? Would be fantastic if you are a photography fan. Dorset has some amazing scenery too, as well as national trust parks etc. You could save some £ by camping somewhere new in the UK - giving you extra spendos!0 -

We've just come back from Spain (flew to Girona with Ryanair) and 4 of us checked in one bag at £15 (this was booked in March tho' and prices may have changed for checked in luggage) and took a cabin case each which allowed us 10kg each. 15kg allowance for each checked in bag - and they are super-strict - we weighed case before left home so knew we were ok. Guy in front of us at check in was 5kg over and got charged £75:eek: If you're just going for a couple of days I reckon you can easily manage with cabin cases therefore avoiding checking in luggage altogether and not having the wait at the airport for your bag. First time flying with a budget airline and we were really impressed - providing you stick to their rules about luggage, they're great.
PS: Barcelona is easy to get to from Girona - taxis are all metered so you shouldn't get ripped off. We were staying on the coast and it cost us €46 to go about 50 mins.0 -
if you can travel from stanstead four return flights ocst £80 to oslo on the sat- wed some beautiful scenery there and hostels would be of good standard.
try looking on www.skyscanner.net as there are hundreds of cheap flights at the moment0 -
