I wondered if anyone could help me

Last year I got taxed a small fortune for some work I did as I am a student I just worked as and when doing promotions. I forgot to ring the tax people but my mum said that I would get it back in april but I didnt.

Is there anything I can do about it now or is it too late?

Thanks in advance x

I think you have to actually claim it back. Give your local tax office a ring and they will send you a reclaim pack.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

As above ^^. You have to go to them and say you've overpaid on tax can you send me the relevant documents. They will ask for P45.

Or you can just send P45 and covering letter to local tax office and it should get done anyway.

There's a form that students can fill in to let them know you shouldn't be paying tax, probably worth asking them about it.

you can only fill out that form if you are only working in the holidays and won't earn over the taxable threshold (which applies to students just like everyone else).

Just pop your P45 and a letter in the post to your tax office (the one on your payslip). The refund should come within a month.

If you don't know your tax office, look for the PAYE reference on your payslip, something like XXX/XXXXX then post it here and I'll look it up for you.

i would recommend calling up your local tax office to speak to someone - it also then gives you a person to send any correspondence to. when i was studying they were very helpful and sorted things out quickly. if you are still working for the company you may not have received a P45 but should instead have a P60 for the end of the last financial year. if you don't have one then contact the company and ask as you'll need some proof of income.
