advice on transfering LO from cot to bed

Hi my DD is currently 14months old and sleeps fine in her cot with snuggle bag as she kicks covers off her but has a blanket to snuggle to also. Just wanting a bit of advice really from those with experience on moving her into a cot bed. My daughter has a cot which we want to use for our second child( not currently expecting but trying sept so DD will be just over 2 when baby no.2 arrives (fingers crossed). We wanted to get her into the cot bed before baby comes so she doesnt feel pushed out and is used to this before hand. The cot bed we have was my neice's and has a safety guard on it. Does anyone have any tips on transfering them. Im just worried that she will be able to climb out of the bed easier than the cot and hurt herself but dont really want to try her now as we dont need the cot eyt and she is perfectly happy in it aprt from kicking the cot on occassions during her sleep when she fidgets.

any ideas welcome!!

I moved my daughter into a bed when she was 14 months old and just put the cot mattress at the side of the bed so if she fell out she fell onto that and not the hard floor, I never used a safety guard, these can be more of a problem than they solve as the little ones can actually try to climb over them and then they fall from a greater height.

She never did fall out and adjusted to the new bed within a couple of weeks and so we removed the mattress then

hi milliemonster i was thinking the same thing about the safety guard like you say climbgin over it makes them higher than just falling from the bed which isnt high at all really. like the idea of putting the cot matress down at side of cot bed think i will try that. thanks

An older mum here, with kids now grown up, but I didn't know what a cot bed was until I just looked on Mothercare! Seems like an unneccessary expense to me. Moved my eldest daughter into a bog standard single bed some months before next one came along when she just turned 2. I did use one of those bed guards for a bit, but she never climbed over it or hurt herself. We made a big thing of her going into her single bed, new duvet covers in childs prints she liked, and other bits and pieces to make her new room special. Doing it before the new baby came along, meant she was settled and happy in her new environment.

Hello Olivia was born April, she walks and kinda runs really well and says a few words (ta, mum, dad, smelly bum!, drink, doggy). She is a little madam and loves her own way! But she is also very funny amd makes us laugh so much. If she farts (whihc she does several times a day) she go ohhhh and puts her hamd over her mouth! Hysterical! :rotfl:

She has just discovered the fridge and she walked into the front room the other day munching on a big block of cheese! Child lock is on the fridge door now! :T

that was the strangest thing reading your last post 3cheekyprincesses. our daughter is called olivia as you probably guessed from my post name. she is exactly the same is running around like you say babbling words she keeps winking at people we were shopping yesterday and this young lad about 19/20 said aw bless that little girl just winked at me. if we are at other poeples houses ie parents and someone comes in she looks up points and says who's that!!! cheeky. and like your olivia farts several times a day sometimes its that loud i really think its hubby blaming it on her she pinches her nose and wafts her hand so funny.

who needs tv, books or anything else i could watch her all day. Olivia was born in may so not too far off we are wanting to try for no.2 but im waiting for my gall bladder removing at the moment(gutted im only 24!!) so having to wait till after that and recovery.

Gennie- I agree about unecessary expence on the cot bed. the one we have was my niece's who is 3 now and has a single bed my sister had the cot as a cot then the bed then she bought a single when she got her own house lived with my parents previously so at the time of having my niece the cot bed was the best option for when she was big enough for a bed the cot bed wasnt too big for the room as they shared.
