HSBC credit card payment

Hi Guys,

I've been getting tips from here for a while now and I just want to know if anyone else is having the same problem.

I got an HSBC card for the 9 months interest free (I just got it in time) and got a great limit, switched balances over etc. Problem is getting HSBC to actually take my money and pay them. Sounds like I'm crazy and stupid. I'm convinced I must have missed something really easy to sort this out. I normally pay everything online, or via DD. It's all set up and taken out of my hands, easy.

With HSBC I can either pay the minimum amount a month of the full amount via DD and neither applies. I want to pay X amount a month and in 9 months my balance will be paid in full (I've done this with all other cards, been able to pay whatever amount over the min I want). They don't accept payments online, they don't accept payments over the phone, they haven't sent me out any paper statements (even though I requested): I can see my statement online but I've nothing to walk into the bank with to pay my bill. I've requested a DD form to set up the mimimum payment for now so I don't get any late charges but I'm not sure that will arrive on time get set up etc. I can pay online if I have a current account there which I don't want and again don't think there is enough time to get that all sorted.

I know I should have been a bit more on top of it but every other card I've had (and I'm a bit of a card tart), I've had internet payments, phone payments, direct debits easily set up (for whatever value I want), written statements etc so many options to pay. The reason I didn't ask for a DD to be set up as they said you could only do min or full amount so I thought I'd pay online/phone or worst case secnario via cheque or in the bank when statement comes through. I phoned up and they are sending me a statement and that should sort it out. Hopefully it will get here with the easter post and I will be able to pay my bill on time but it just seems a like a real pain.

I'm just wanting to know did anyone else have this kind of problem to start with? If I cannot pay online/via telephone, don't get statements sent out (their fault) and don't want to just pay the minimum and cannot pay the maximum what on Earth are you supposed to do? Maybe it's just some big plan so I set up a DD for the min and get stuck with them not paying anything off. I suppose I will set up a DD for the min amount and hope they send me statements and pay the rest when/if I get them.

Personally I'd rather have gone for 6 months interest free on another card and had an easy time paying, no worries, no fuss. I've been spolit with technology :rotfl: I'm just not used to this having to get off my !!!!!! and actually put some effort into paying a bill. I'll admit it, I'm lazy and forgetful a nightmare combo for paying bills the hard way.

Thanks for reading my rant

All CCs allow only either minimum or full payments by DD.
Regarding online payments to HSBS CC from other bank's current account see my post in HSBC shambles thread.

However, IMHO making equal payments during 0% period is not the best strategy. It is much better to make minimum payments during 9 months, pay the rest into a savings account and then make one final lump sum payment from a savings account when 0% period ends.

Good thinking about the savings. Too tempting to spend it though if I know money is lying around in a savings account I can get access to. I don't trust myself and the £10 interest is not worth the risk. Good idea for people who owe a lot of money on credit cards. Also I'd probably miss the date and end up paying the interest on the card. You can see now why I like things that can be set up to run automtically or run easily without me leaving the house.

On my egg card, I set up a specific amount to pay each month and it takes it out of my account automatically like a DD so I assumed it was. Others I just pay online whatever amount I want.

I'll check out the the thread. Thanks

I'm doing the same thing as you regarding 9month 0%.. and like you wanted it paid in full by the end of that term.. I sent up a DD for the min payment and then I do an online transfer the day I get paid to them making up the X amount I need that month. I've not had any probs... and atleast I know I'll never miss a payment with the DD set up. I must admit though.. they have credited my account TWICE this month for the same payment.. I'm hoping they won't realise (bit I'm sure they will!).
