prepay credit cards - how do they work?

Hi, girl at work has just got prepay credit card but I was wondering how they work?
Do you 'top them up' as you go along? And can you use them abroad? x

    'pre-pay' and 'credit card' are not the same, with a pre-pay card you load the thing up and can then only spend what's on the card. Whilst the ways you can load differ company to company, typically you'll be able to load a card with cash at a Post Office or PayPlan distributor, online, or with BACS. And 'yes', they do work abroad (just make sure you get one from Visa or MasterCard).
