Hello people, My 1st post.
Im after some laptop advice, I don’t know much about them when it comes to specs, so I have a couple of questions.
We want to get rid of our PC and basically have a wireless system set up at home, we want two laptops between the price of £100-£300 with decent enough specs to surf the web and do normal things on Microsoft Office, NOT play games, can anyone recommend a model/brand? I found this one, is it good? Please be honest. (i cant post links so copy into browser, replace the , with .)

Also… when browsing the net I also come across these Netbooks (small portable laptops) are they any good and again could anyone recommend one of these? Im kind of looking to go more towards these as there small compact, I found this one, although it’s a refurb are the specs decent for the price? Again be honest.

I want the Operating System to be running XP/Vista not Linux. Im hoping to get one if there for under £150 (if that’s possible).
Thanks in advance

Read the current PC mags at WH Smiths. Look at the A List in PC Pro mag. Sony, Samsung Asus are very good. For the the things you want to do any >£250 laptop would fit the bill. Just select a screen size and keyboard, do you want numeric keyboard?0

I concur with totalsolutions. The A-List on PCPro is very good and you can often find new laptops for that price. Although I would also look around on eBay for a higher spec PC that is second hand...0

As a main laptop, you might want to consider a Medion. These are rather cheap but come with an ample spec for a normal modern environment. You can find plenty on their website for less than £300. They do also do netbooks as well which are quite good, but you may be interested in Dell's offerings;
The Dell Mini 9 is a pretty good netbook, comes with Windows XP (which, along side Linux, is the standard OS on netbooks), has 1gb of RAM and an 8gb solid state hard drive. For only £170 (incl. P&P), you can get one with a 3 years warranty from Dell, which is a very good deal. It also has other features such as Bluetooth, In-built WiFi and a long battery life.The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Thanks for the advice guys, after looking im probobly going to go for a notebook, Bowling_4_Gold - That Dell netbook you recommended has only a 8GB hard drive, some of the netbooks ive been looking at have 80GB hard drives, like the link in my 1st post.
Im also after a notebook with Windows XP as thats what im used to and already have software for.0 -
Laptops Direct have a list of XP netbooks and laptops currently numbering 182! Search through the forums for comments about their service, though.I'm also after a notebook with Windows XP as that's what I'm used to and already have software for.
Also Morgan Computers have a number of (mainly Toshiba) second-hand and new laptops where Vista is installed but you get a XP Recovery DVD which you can use to wipe out Vista and install XP. (Work your way through the left-hand-side menu bar).
