Like earwigs!
If my clothes are damp. I air them on radiators or a clothes airer. If dry I fold them and put them in drawers straight away. It's great to be ALIVE!0 -
I think years ago when there was no central heating, and people had more chest/breathing problems due to things being damp...so they allways used to make sure their clothes and bed sheets were aired, dried... as if they were put into their clothes cupboard and stored without being aired, so they might have been damp, this would produced mould spores on the fabrics and then they would start rotting..
so i think it was a combination of the above, that people air their clothes.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Airing clothes dates back centuries and does have a practical purpose, in that before the times of modern detergents it was possible that moulds and moth larvae would not be destroyed, and so hanging them out in the Sun helped destroy these nasties, as well as make clothes smell fresh. Today, it may not be necessary, however the excess moisture in doing so in the house is probably not good if you are prone to condensation or are sensitive to detergents and don't need the odour in the house. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

If you have ever had a washing machine that smells a bit whiffy, clothes that don't quite smell as nice as when you put them in the drawers, especially after you've had them on for about an hour, or any mould in your bathroom - you need to be certain your clothes have aired. I reckon that a lot of the problems we have now with mould and condensation is due to not airing clothes (along with the loss of the hot fill machine).I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

if things are a bit cold to the touch when I bring them in then I fold and then a put on the towel rack by the bathroom radiator, but other than that they go straight i the drawers. TBH if I am drying inside things are left so long on the maiden they are dried to the point of cripsiness when I get round to putting them away. We have a combi boiler so no airing cupboard but I remember my mums vividly and rooting around for odd socks!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I have an airing cupboard and use it religiously. In fact nothing goes back into my our drawers and cupboards until its spent a few days in there. Basically its the space around the hot water tank with lots of wooden slat shelving. I love my airing cupboard ! Always loved to get the babygro's out of there and them being lovely and warm for my babies (now 20, 18, 16 and 14) x
Me too - always pop things in the airing cupboard, usually only for a day though. Unless it is a really hot sunny day. Either that or the conservatory which gets very warm in the sun.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I only air things if they are still damp. If they are dry they get put away into the wardrobe and drawers.0

I air, just like mum taught me! When I have ironed I put everything on the clotheshorse and leave it overnight. It makes the room they are in smell really fresh as a bonus. When we had a coal fire the clothes horse stood in front of that overnight (behind fireguard I hasten to add.) I have never had any musty smells but I do think people don't bother to air nowadays. Probably due to tumbledriers. My son thinks that one of the really ridiculous things I do (amongst many!) is to air a facecloth before putting it in the airing cupboard!0

Clothes can't get much more airing than being hung out on the line to dry...in the air. Can they?
So long as everything is bone dry, that's all the matters isn't it?
The only thing that lives in our airing cupboard is the towels.
Everything else gets either line dried or tumble dried, then ironed and put away.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
