Nokia 5800 Express & Vodafone

Options
Hi,

I got the above phone from Vodafone (online if that makes any difference) approx 4 months ago. It has just started randomly turning off and then not turning back on unless I remove the battery and restart it. In fact it did it when I was in the shop and the lady was playing with it.

I went into the shop and they said that because it was out of the 28 days Nokia replacement guarantee all they could do was send it back for repair. I wasn't eligible for a temporary replacement phone as I haven't got insurance. I could have that added for £7 per month (minimum of 3 months) and then they would let me have a phone for a week or so. I told them I objected to paying insurance especially as the phone was practically new.

She then went off to see the manager and came back saying "on this one occasion they would issue me a replacement phone but NEVER again would I get that and if it got lost, damaged or stolen during the time it was with me it would cost me £100".

What are my rights with regards to getting the phone replaced/repaired?

They went over and above your rights, so hopefully the next one will work 100% :)

If not, then find a Nokia service centre who can fix them in hours rather than sending them away from the store... I used one for a broken phone and then did it on the premises in 20 mins :)
  • You are receiving far more than you need too.

The law gives you the right to a repair within a reasonable time - provided
You have no right to a replacement phone without the insurance so the fact you got one is fair. If you lost the phone the term of replacement cost again seems fair.

If you don't want insurance don't expect the benefits of it.

My Nokia phone (not the same model) has started to do this aswell, turning itself off and refusing to restart until the battery has been removed. Last night it did it when I was driving to the airport so that's majorly inconvenient, you can't really take it all to bits to remove the battery while your driving along a motorway. Must be a Nokia thing. :(

I got this phone from vodafone too. Have had no problems with the phone but only hassle whenever dealing with vodafone. Hope your new one works properly and you don't have to deal with them much more! It really is a good phone I've found.
