What do you do in your second job Molly if you don't mind me asking?

How much would anyone need to earn per hour to make a second job worthwhile? Does it depend on what you earn in your first job?

I was wondering for a while what I could do as a second job. I work part time mornings and look after my 2 year old in the afternoon, then pick up my nearly 8 year old from school at 3pm. So I needed something that would fit around them and not need to pay out on more childcare. I have ended up selling Avon products. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks and after a few expenses I have earned £82. I am now onto my second order and should hopefully make not far off that again.

I actually enjoy doing it and get to meet many people in the area. Plus they look forward to their products being delivered. Not too complicated either.

I also rang a company in January to see if they had any deliveries I could do, for catalogues etc. On Monday I had a call to say they needed someone to do holiday cover, so I have agreed to this. Hopefully come September there could be a full time position and I could earn an income this way when I am made redundant. Also it would save on childcare costs as I can take my 2 year old with me.

    seems to be the case,yep.

I earn c25k in my 1st job, so i get taxed at the same rate for the second job.
which is why i never took it on
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I thought that would be ok if you got taxed at the same rate on a 2nd job but then I don't know much about taxes. :o

I work full time and already have a second job. I work in a shop at nites and on a Sat and they take approx 25 % tax and national insurance off me. It's not that bad and as im paid monthly in my full time job it gives me money on a weekly basis that i can use to pay towards my debts.

I also spend most of my spare time listing on ebay...

could really be doing with something else to earn extra money, however, there are not enough hours in the day :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Tax is an issue. I guess being self employed I am lucky to some extent in that my accountant does some jiggery pokery and always gets me a low tax bill or rebate.

I am taxed at 492L on main job and BR (22%) on second job. I also do my self employed bit which again is at 22%.

My part time job earnd me £4 - £500 a month at the moment due to doing every hour I can

The Main job , well its a main job as its 8 - 4 mon - fri pays me £1100 a month

But the self employed stuff is currently matching that. The problem is , that I dont want to drop the part time work , as my main job contract is only 6 months and come September , I will need the part time job if the slef employed thing drops off again.

All confusing I know , but I am paying a lot off my debts and feeling good about it

I know that when you get taxed so heavily on a 2nd job it doesnt seem worth it. But I would still rather be earning money than sitting at home not being able to do anything because I couldnt afford to. Dont get me wrong - some days I enjoy sitting at home doing nothing, but I also like feeling as though I am doing something about my situation by earning more money!!

Mind you, my 2nd jobs have been relatively well paid (£6.73 for 2nd job at healthclub and £8.57 at this one) - but then I am taxed too obviously.

I have 14 more Saturdays at this job - whoooooooooooooo!!! xx

ms_london....I probably missed you getting the second job as I wasn't around back then...so, if you don't mind me asking...what do you do at your second job?
