End of Npower 'special fixed rate' - what do you think of these new rates??.....

Hi,

We have had our letters for our Gas and Elec from npower to say that as of 30th June 09, our fixed energy price came to an end.

The letters say that

"although your prices have now returned to the same as our standard rates, we ahve moved your account to the new version of 'Fix for Free' capped tariff. This tariff is at the same rate as our standard prices plus its capped until July 2010."

Is this a good thing or should we be looking elsewhere now for a cheaper deal?

The new rates are:

Elec
Per unit (up to 728 kWh per year - 23.10 inc vat
Per unit (over 728 kWh per year - 16.11p inc vat

Gas
per unit (up to and including 4572 kWh per year) - 8.42p inc vat
per unit (over 4572 kWh per year) - 2.61p inc vat.

How does this compare to other providers?

Scottish Power are available in my area and have heard they are fairly competitive?

We pay monthly direct debits of

£38 per month elec
£29 per month gas

Any advice appreciated

Many Thanks

    Pluchchris - really?

do you mean our monthly DD or the rate per unit?

What should we be paying? - average?

The rate per unit, some of the other suppliers have a second tier unit rate of under 10p depending on the tariff.

It all depends on your usage there top tier is very expensive to be honest as I though BG had the most expensive tier 1 on standard but it seems N power are more expensive on tier 1. The amount of units you have to use on that expensive tier is almost double per quarter than BG ( I am not to sure on other tier prices).

One thing I will say is that tier 2 seems decent enough and I think cheaper than the likes of BG but it depends on your usage to get the real benefit of it.

    Elec

    As Plushchris said horrible prices

High tier 1 just like eon and BG.

But unlike its competitors 16.11 is extremely high as many companys now are 10 pence per kwh or lower.

I know figures vary across the country but I'm with N power on sign online 10
    and mine are much lower!!
    Elec
Per unit (up to 728 kwh per year) £13.05
Per unit (over 728 kwh per year)£11.87

    Gas
Per unit (Up to 4572 kwh per year)£7.59

    Hi,

After your comments about our new rates being extortionate I got straight onto Uswitch and Money supermarket.

Based on our yearly spend of Gas - £481 and Elec £220 with npower, it comes up that the most I could save is about £90 per year 9I know thats still a saving but I was expecting much more following the comments on here).

The cheapest suppliers for my area are coming up as Scottish Power and Eon.

I want to make sure I am entering the correct amount when comparing suppliers, if I call npower and ask them to tell me how many kWh we used last year in both Gas and Elec will they be able to tell me?
