Uncontested divorce, how much will it cost?

Hi all,

I don't know where to start really, but I would like to find out about getting a divorce. My husband lives in another country, and we've been separated for 6 years. We have young kids, of whom I have full custody which he's fine with, and he visits us sometimes.

As I'm a full time student, would I qualify for legal aid to get a divorce, or if not, how much would it cost? I think I would like a clean break, and I broached the subject with him, and he's ok with it, but doesn't want to fork out for it:rolleyes:.

Does anyone have any idea of how to go about a intercontinental (?) divorce?

Thanks

    Hi,

I've recently gotten divorced and i paid $299.00 for a fixed fee divorce. The price does depend on who does the divorcing though. You can expect to pay around $500 if you decided to divorce him, i let me husband divorce me so that my costs where cheaper. Things are much easier and cheaper if you can talk and agree on things between yourself instead of using your solicitors!

With regards to Legal Aid if you search through Google (put am i entitled to Legal Help) you shuld get a web-site that will work out your entitlement. I would think being a student you would be entitled, but im not sure.

    Good luck.

I think you probably would be entitled - phone a local solicitor and ask. I don't think the fact he lives abroad will make much difference, but if you can get Legal Aid use it. If not, then you can contact your local court and get the forms through them and do it yourself.
