Money Taken from Account by Renewal Service

Hi,
Two years ago I signed up to a web hosting company and paid for the service they offered for a two year period. I barely used the service and rarely checked my account.
Yesterday, I noticed £124 had been taken from my bank account via debit card by this company. When I rang customer support, I actually went to technical support and they told me that the service was on automatic renewal.
I wasn't aware of this and as I no longer needed what I bought, I decided just to leave it and wait for it to expire. However, they took money from my account and with no notification what so ever. I checked my account details on their website and they are all up to date.
The technical support told me that there are no refunds provided but when I explained I wasn't notified of my accounts expiration, I was just told to call customer support. They only open 9 - 5 which are my hours of work, I can make time to call but I don't want to be on the phone for hours trying to resolve this if I don't know where I stand, especially when I'll have to call from my mobile phone.
Could anyone clarify where I stand?
Thankyou.

If the terms stated automatic renewal then you stand in its your own fault any refund is a goodwill gesture.
If this isnt a term ask your bank to do a chargeback.0 -
Thanks for your reply. I have read the terms and the service is renewed automatically. My fault for not reading it through when I signed up.
I spoke to customer support and they said I can check the expiration date via my account on their website. Do I not have any standing if there lack of notification is so poor?
I recieved two emails a few weeks ago from them advertising new prices etc but there simply was notification in place. I was meant to keep track of it myself.0
