No need to apologise, however I have not dismissed the Direct Debit option out of hand. Indeed I have acknowledged several times that the advice on this in the main is for the benefit of the customer.
Already this morning CannyJock has pointed out to 2 people that problems could have been avoided if Direct Debits had been set up.
They clearly are helpful for many people, I just prefer to operate in a different way.
Again sorry Nick.
I was not infering that you personally, dissmised dd's out of hand, but rather generalising.
I would think that the real reason that a lot of people do not set dd's up is because they are afraid that they will not have enough in the account to meet the bill at the right time.......flying with their bums a little too close to the ground, as it were, and may be willing (although not liking) to accept a late payment fee, rather than have that and a bounced dd fee as well.0 -

Direct debits have their uses in the tapestry of life, but even DDs are not always trouble-free.
Some forum users seem to have difficulty setting them up at all, others assume wrongly that additional, manual payments will be treated by their new provider the same way as the previous lender and of course your current account needs to be sufficiently well-funded to cover all your DDs each month, otherwise you're hit for bank charges on top of the late fees charged by cc companies. Then there's the DDs that are collected twice in one month when the payment date changes, not to mention those that are debited to old and new current accounts at the same time. It's all good fun :rolleyes:People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
