Best thing to do is get a friend or family member to recomend, if they had a good experience with a local broker you may have more joy."Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson

Charcoals are big. Personally I find in life big is never best when it comes to service and knowledge. The small local window firm were infinitely superior to the nationals, same with B & Q compared to the little hardware shop. The small local EA's are superior to those big chains.0

Yes, there is often a "hidden agenda" with the big boys.
I know, I've been there in the past..
" We know Lender A have the best deals, but if we don't place a certain amount of business with Lender B this month, we will lose some of their contracts"
The little guy has to do whats best for the client, because if they don't the client won't come backI am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. L&C are not true whole of market. Just commission providers. Using an independent that does true whole of market could be better and cheaper.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

What a load of cr*p! Ive worked for two of the largest firms in the UK, and have never witnessed management putting pressure on advisors to chose one lender over another, due to contract issues. Just as with the smaller firms, the so called 'big firms' rely on good service otherwise their business model fails just like anyone else.
dont normally like to rant.... but had no cereal this morning!I am a mortgage advisor:A0 -

I agree with the above posts re family members / friends advice and opinions.
Having said that saw this which might help: Mortgages for Business voted Best National Adviser at What Mortgage Awards 2009 - 21.07.2009
I use them to for the daily SWAP and LIBOR rate updates and saw it. Otherwise I'd say stick to the advice your family gave you.
Have you had a bad experience with L&C?0 -
Aren't L&C whole of market?! Well I am shocked - I thought they were?
Not a bad experience as such but my usual broker has left and the new guy I am dealing with I seem to be having a personality clash with so thought I'd shop around this time.
Who is a whole of market broker then and also free!0
