Immediate refund of charges

Hiya all

Hope someone can help me here. my account was at £17 on monday and an interest charge of £11 was due to come out yesterday for my overdraft which it did. also every time before i get paid i use pay at the pump for £10 of petrol and it authorises the card for £1 which would have left my account around £5 and always comes out 2 even 3 days after i get it.
The bank have now charged me £25 for yesterday for being £3 overdrawn
and also another £25 because it has went over my overdraft so am now £50 down.
Am so annoyed at myself for letting it go overdrawn by such a stupid amount! Is there any chance they give you the charges back straight away as i now have to live on £16 for the next week with 2 young children (not that they actually care).
They have taken £50 off me for going £3 overdrawn and it takes me 10 hours work to make that money.

Have learnt my lesson anyway!

Phone the bank up and explain. I went overdrawn once and the Halifax refunded the charges as it was my first time.

    £17-£11-£10 doesn't equal £5 or £3

While I agree that the charges are disproportionate, you may need to change the way you 'stretch' your money.

please read the first line of my post, i asked for help. that helped me in no way at all. if you actually read my post it will equal -£4 athough my overdrawn amount was -£3.16

I offered advice that you should rethink the way you stretch your money.

How you can have £17 in the bank and think that spending £11 and then £10 will leave you in credit is beyond me.
  • If you havent had charges refunded before more banks seem to give you a goodwill gesture refund. Its at their disgression though so don't ring up guns blazing effing and blinding at them. Be nice and apologetic and explain your situation to them and you will likely find they will refund the first set of charges you get.

Worth a shot anyway. Whats the worst that could happen :)
