I really can't understand why you signed this banning document. Surely if the police were called and you produced the receipts then the store would have to eat humble pie?

Who would admit guilt even if they had done nothing wrong - even if it meant a bit of inconvenience?

they said they had called the main security for the building but they failed to turn up after an hour, so instead of calling the police they let me go on promise that I would sign the banning order. I just wanted to get out of there as quick as I could because I had had enough of feeling like a criminal.Yes I shouldn't have done that but I am not here to explain my reasons for acting the way I did, I was just looking for some advice.
If I was a shoplifter then I wouldn't have came here looking for advice would I. I'm sure there are plenty of forums for shoplifters where I could have asked how to 'get off' with it if I was guilty.

This site has turned into the Judge and Jury in many ways. Some of the posts that I now read, are just turning into vehicles that small minded people use to let off steam...usually upsetting the operator, so much that they never return.

For everyones information....a banning letter can and are issued by many stores, for many reasons. They are not just issued for shoplifting, and signing one does not indicate guilt on the operators part.
In my many years as a successful store detective, the stores where I worked issued banning letters, for lots of other reasons.

I personally think that the mods should now close this particular thread, as the advice that the OP needed has been given and the rest of you lot, are just jumping to conclusions, as to what might have happened!!

Totally agree, thanks a lot for not instantly prejudging me. I now have enough valuable info to proceed with my case. Thanks for your replies!

Fair do's, just looking at this from the logical side of things as I do not have the ability to see it any other way.

OP, think its probably best to cut your losses and just put it down to experience.

  • Hi Katie,

Have you been back to the shop with the receipts yet to get your items?

I would do that straight away, then write a complaint letter to the shop in questions Head Office .

I fail to see how this thread is money saving, or a 'shop but don't drop' offer or tip?
Have none of the normal board police reported and gotten it locked yet? Or are the normal 'knickers in a twist' brigade on holiday?

Better bargins for u - "usually upsetting the operator, so much that they never return" one can only hope in this case, dishonesty is not something that I'm sure most (if not all) MSErs would like to have on the boards....
Do not feed the trolls please.

Oh yeah, that well known forum SHOPLIFTERS R US

no receipts, no bags, no battery and now no main security so you "had" to sign the form, any inocent person would not have done that - admit to stealing when you know you havn't done it. You wer going to stay the night at your friends with no battery on your phone?? odd. Next you'll be saying it was your BF that had no battery? does he have no back bone either?
Why hasn't he been down there to sort them out and get them told your not a thief> why? because your story doesn't make any sense and the more you add to it the less and less beleivable it's becoming

Judging you the way you judge others, you know pretty much about the way a shoplifter would think... you even know the next thing they would add to the story. Are you a shoplifter yourself?

I don't know if the op is guilty or not, but if you think she is, then just don't help her. She asked for advice, that's it.
Goal: Win a car (or cash to buy one :))! -- Haha goal from when I was a student. Never actually won this but got a good job instead.

    What I achieved:
    Car paid in full straightaway.
    Two properties fully paid. Wohhoooo!

Most of the threads on here are about asking for help, and in general, most of the posts on other threads are in the incorrect place- doesn't make it right to post things in the wrong place, but fact is, it happens.

If you had looked, most of the threads on here start of asking a question rather then posting an offer.

OP, did you go to the CAB or anywhere- if they have your stuff, it must be theft as you paid for it- get the police involved, and get the security staff dealt with, I hope this was no where near where I live, I hope I never run into staff who are like that- they seem to not know the law.

Ok, it seems this thread has been taken as far as it can in terms of helpfulness, and is starting to turn a bit bitter, so I'm now closing it.

Thank you all for your participation. As a side note, I would recommend the b*tcing is kept to a minimum on the forums... it doesn't really help anybody, and usually results in even more work for the BGs and abuse team.
