Anyone else having issues with BT changing the billing dates?
Charged for 3 months and 2 weeks. I phoned and queried this to be told its legal and regulated by ofcom. Hinted that ofcom told them to do it?
When he said that my 1st thought was its legal but your ripping me off.
Can anyone shed any light on why they have added an extra 2 weeks onto my bill date? Going to see what old bills i have, Pretty sure they have done this several times now.
Puzzled.

They CLAIM its to bring your rental period in line with the charging period for calls to make the bills "easier to understand"! As an old cynic looks like a nice one off cash flow injection for BT to me. Its actually listed on the BT web site:- https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=24915
As an aside I was expecting it to happen to me with yesterday's bill (extra 20 days rental) but my rental period is still from 1st of month. Funny old world!0 -
I just got hit with double what i normally pay because of the adjustment.
I asked them why and they said on previous bills, rental is charged in advance in whole calendar months (1st of month to month end). Now my line rental starts from the bill date and is still charged monthly in advance.
I said it,s good of of you to give me no advance notice, and have now voted on my feet and moved to no contract PO Homephone.0 -

Thanks but not much to look into really, It happens to lots of people but seems strange & wanted other people's opinions on the actual reason and i am sure plenty of others would like a reason why.
2 weeks extra money in advance x how many BT customers must add up to a few ££ in bonus interest.
What puzzles me is when did my bills start to get seperate dates? When i took out the BT line many moons ago my line rental and phone call billing would have been the same date surely?
Can i request copies of old bills? How far back can i request them and at what cost?
Thanks0 -
Ok, so BT are currently migrating all our customers to a new billing system. The new billing system charges customers from the date of the previous bill to the date of the next bill rather than the first of each month.
I would need you to PM me your account details so that I could check exactly when your account has been migrated over to give you an exact date as to when your billing dates changed.
Yes you can apply for a copy of your old bills, we should be able to process a copy of most of your bills depending on how long you are with BT. Again I would need your account details to check this for you. Each copy bill cost £4.00 (excluding VAT) and £4.60 (including VAT).
Therefore if you would like to forward me your account details in a PM I would be happy to get the above information for you.

My feelings exactly........
OK not a big amount but my bill was £10 more than is usually is, being and old tight a*s I contacted them to be told the billing dates have changed, but cannot get my head around why my bill still falls on the same date every month and my next bill will not be £10 less, I will still have paid £10 more for my bill over the year? or is it just me being thick?!0 -
HI keicar,
With a changeover to a new billing system all bills are charged exactly 1 month in advance of the bill date for monthly billed customers and 3 months in advance from the bill date for quarterly billed customers.
The best way I can explain this without actually looking at your bill is this.
You are billed on the 10th of every month. So you get a bill on the 10th March prior to the changeover of billing systems. On the March bill you pay your rental from the 1st March to the 31st March. 10 days in arrears and 21 days in advance.
Your billing is changed over to the new system in April and on ths bill you are charged exactly 1 month in advance from the date on the bill so the 1 month in advance is from the 11th April to the 10th May. However there is still a 10 day period from the 1st to the 10th April that needs to be paid. this is where the additional 10 days comes from. This additional 10 days is on the 1 bill only. Your May bill will charge rental from the 11th May to the 10th June. Your June bill will charge your from the 11th June to the 10th July and so on. If you want me to have a look at your account adn check this send a PM with your account details
Hope this helps

The thing is, you get some 'helpful' woman from BT on the phone and they explain this change in policy... and that they 'have the right to do it' as it's always been part of the contract. I was billed on 28/6 - in arrears, but it's been like that for 38 years - and now, without notice, I'm charged on 28/7 for two periods - in arrears for July and IN ADVANCE for august. You will NEVER catch that up, you won't make up that £10 and I won't make up my £30.
BT have arrogantly made the massive preseumption that I and millions of others ACTUALLY HAVE TWO MONTHS MONEY SITTING THERE WAITING FOR YOU. Well f**k you BT. Time to move on. What's Virgin's number?0 -
when i rang up about this, a few weeks ago, i was told that the bill would be suspended til the date that would usually fall on, still gettin the bills tho, even tho i paid my usual bill a couple of weeks before i got the new one, i am not giving BT any money til the proper bill date which is 3 months between bills.
then a couple of days ago, i got thinking, my contract with BT is up soon so im moving, so i called them, guess what!! they tied me into another 12 month contract without telling me, so i called them again i got some poor english speaking asian on the phone, who i could barely understand, who appeared to sort it out, so my contract now ends when it should. altho i am waiting for written confirmation of this.
ya know what BT could do the best service in this country , but all they want to do is rip you off coz you have to use them if you want a landline, and keep tying you into a 12month contract.
as soon as o2 bring their landline deal out , im going with them, and o2 told me there bringing it out this month0
