Claiming back charges: stop/start - can anyone please advise?

First of all, I'm really sorry, because I think the answer to this is probably pretty obvious. I've been tying myself up in knots trying to figure out what I should do and I have finally decided just to ask and see if anyone can set me on the right path!

I started looking into reclaiming bank charges (from HBOS) about 2 years ago. I got hold of 5 years of statements, which I still have. I think the total was about £2.5k. I am now banking with Natwest so the HBOS account is closed. Until very recently I think I would have been able to claim under the hardship rules, but I've started a full-time job so I think now I shall be going down the 'regular' route and filing my claim behind the thousands of others.

My questions - am I right in thinking that I can only claim for 5 years from the date I file the claim (and thus some of the statements I've got will now be invalid?). And can anyone tell me just how much it will cost me to file the claims initially? As even though I'm working more, I will still be broke for quite a while. And (sorry, just one more question!) as I've already got the statements, and letters from them detailing their investigations into my complaints (I got a bit down the line with the process before) at what point do I go back into the process?

I hope this makes sense, and again, I'm really sorry if this is all dead obvious, I'm just getting awfully confused.

Cheers!

I am assuming that you are in Scotland so for the purposes of the claim it is 5 years from the date of the stay or 27th July 2002 until today's date or the date of the account being closed. Even if you had been unemployed I would doubt you would have had a claim for financial hardship on a closed account. The waiver is not a payout if you have some of the hardship criteria ;)

actually, although I was in Scotland when I opened the account, I've now been in London for 8 years...

In that case add a year to that timescale back to July 2001 ;)
