I believe Cornwall has a high incidence of Radon as do parts of Northamptonshire. It certainly not new in UK, I first heard about it 20 yrs ago.
Ditto - parts of Derbyshire and Dartmoor area, it's the granite innit?

Nope, not just the granite. Areas classified as 'affected areas' include Northampton (sand) Dover (chalk) central London (clay).

What gets me is the amount of PR the Health Protection Agency has been doing about swine flu - on breakfast TV regularly, news updates on their website daily.....and something like 30 people have died (so far). They're also responsible for publicising the risks of radon & encouraging action, yet clearly not doing a very good job as thousands are dying every year.
