Can I cancel the direct debit authorisation with my bank for paypal but still keep my ebay and paypal account running? I.e. still pay into my bank account but remove authorisation for them to debit my account.

Yes, you can cancel the DD authorisation with PayPal - both with your bank and online in your PayPal account; and then add a credit card for all outgoing PayPal payments.
Golden rule of any internet transaction is to never use your debit card (no protection); always use a credit card.
Despite PayPal making me add bank authorisation at one time as part of a security check, I cancelled it straight away as there's no way they're having access to my bank account - apart from paying in my ill-gotten gains

I dont think you will be able to pay into your bank account (i could be wrong though)0 -
Bank authorisation for making payments, and withdrawing your balance into a bank account are 2 seperate actions in PayPal.
I would never use the same bank account for both :eek:0 -

As long as you never attempt to pay using the bank account with the cancelled DDI, then paypal will probably never know it's been cancelled.
It's only if you attempt to pay with funds from the bank account that paypal discover there is no active DDI and then paypal removes the bank details which will prevent withdrawal. (unless you add the details again)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... When you attempt to withdraw funds, the bank account you give is the primary source of funding paypal.
... but you can add alternative ways of funding."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
one word of warning about paypal direct debits, they do not have to get you to sign up to a direct debit to verify your paypal account, they do it for a reason, because they want access to your bank account.
.
When i was running a business on ebay my monthly ebay fees were in the region of £900 - £1,000 per month and i had direct debit set up on my business bank account in case there ever wasn't enough money in paypal.
when i stopped selling as a business on ebay i cancelled the direct debit instruction with paypal via their site.
Around two months later a mistake was made and an invoice from ebay requested for £700 in ebay fees, i hadn't sold anything, it was a mistake (took 7 months for ebay to admit it was a mistake mind) but paypal reset the cancelled direct debit and attempted to take £700 from my account.
I noticed and managed to stop it going through and asked my bank to cancel the direct debit. they said they would but i needed to cancel it with paypal too, when i told her i already had the bank clerk told me i should watch the account closely as they have had so many reports that paypal are resetting cancelled direct debits without seeking authorisation.
So yes you can cancel it but keep an eye on it because they may reset it without warning.0 -
So how do I cancel the DD with paypal. I got my bank to cancel it, but can I completely cancel it with paypal ?0

I suppose you could write to paypal and advise them if you really wanted to, but that will alert paypal to there being no active DDI on your account so they might remove your bank account details preventing you from withdrawing funds from paypal."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
