Yes.
It's a paid-for service for something that most high street banks will give you for free (i.e. an account with a debit card without credit scoring).
Why do you want to use them specifically? What would William Shatner do?0 -
I've just heard of this bank account, one of the things they advertise is that they are 'open to everyone'. The reason this is of particular interest to me is that I've just found that I have CIFAS fraud markers against me as a result of the demon ex, who paid a cheques into my bank account and into a credit card from what turned out to be a stolen cheque book (and no I wasn't aware that she was using a stolen cheque book!). I've written off to explain the situation in the hope that I can get these markers removed, but I assume this has to go through an appeals process that could take a while, and possibly may fail to get the markers removed.
In the meantime I have no bank account, and a record of fraud stops me from getting a new account opened, so if this account it supposed to be open to everyone, does anyone know if they will take me?
I know it's a rip-off account, but I need a bank account to pay wages into and to set up direct debits so I can pay my bills, hopefully this would only be for a short while until I can sort out the CIFAS warnings.0 -
I had an account with them for a short while, they set it up on the phone and you have to forward ID. They charge you £35 to set it up and £12 per month to run it. You set up your DD with them and when your wages etc goes in they withold the amount needed to pay the DD and the rest is what you see when you put your cash card in the wall, your 'spending' account you cant overspend cos no O/D facility.
I had this account for a short time as i moved not long after opening and they insisted i resent them new ID from my new address or they would close my account in 21 days, i wasnt able to provide what they wanted so quickly and they did close my account. I couldnt be bothered arguing again and was very lucky that Nationwide allowed me to open a Flex account not long after (unfortunately me and hubby bankrupted previously hence trouble getting account).
The debit card is a Maestro Card and i only used it once at a cashpoint and was charged for the pleasure and it was a normal bank ATM so maybe they charge for withdrawals but i dont recall seeing anything about that. Also cheques take 8 working days to clear which is a damn nuisance.
The customer service is excellent though. They are part of the RBS group.
Hope that helps anyway0 -

They are NOT part of the RBS Group of companies. Quick look at Think website would show that.
They may use an RBS account to service and clear their funds through, may not be licenced deposit takers or a licensed bank.
Account opening and monthly management fee payable. Personal bank accounts only. Proof of identity will be required. The thinkbanking account is a managed bank account service held with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group but managed and provided by Think Banking Ltd. thinkbanking is an independent company and is not part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
thinkbanking, Pennington House, Carolina Way, South Langworthy Road, Salford Quays, M50 2ZY

As usual with Banks they all deceive you somehow....Think Banking is LICENSED BY RBS....so that tells you something....underneath it all you can bet Think Banking are associated directly with RBS. I presume that if RBS wanted to pull the plug or change terms they could....Unlike th USA where there are hundreds of different banks so in turn offer more choice, flexibility and fairness and customer service. UK banks hold a monopoly which is exactly what is being looked into at the moment to break the banks up and have more competiton (thats probably a cover too), probably not better services within the UK, as services is very limited in this country. USA and Europe are way ahead of customer service and support, Even the banking systems in most Euro countries are btter than UK.
Nothing could have taught us more thant he past two years about how the banks RUN the country and break the country. Even the governments in power yield to thier whims....and hand out public money to them. Don't kid yourself, the few banks we have in this country do indeed run the country, Along with bent money stealing politicians and local councillers....Have you all got short memmories?
I was born in this country and I was bankrupt recently but cleared now, and I have found it impossible to open accounts here ands till do. yet, IN USA and Europe, I have accounts which were so easy to open, the servcie so much more professional, personal and certainly more helpful. Most Banks here operate like supermarkets, bad service, lack of knowledge, especially on the front counter, attitude problems with customers and worse, under skilled people working within the banks. The banks here rip people off financially, charges, costs, servcie fees, while the banks I use abroad have proven themselves to offer a mouch more user friendly service. If anyone else running a commercial business lost billions and or less, they would have been locked up. The banks learned ntohignf rom the 80's because they did nto want to learn. I knew proeprty develoeprs who wrote thier business plan on the back of a match box and banks threw money at them. The whole banking world here is first of all corrupt and secondly inneficient.
But of course if you come from Africa, or India or Poland or russia, Israel or timbucktoo or somewhere else, getting a bank account is much easier for fear of upsetting the politically correct system.
Its almost impossible to get a bank account as a bankrupt in ths country, and is very difficult to get an aco!!!! even if you're not bankrupt., yet the frickin Banks were bankrupt and took billions from tax payers, work that one out. Systems are being set up as they have been the past 20 years or so where control has taken place of most peoples money and lives through banking, same as car insurance. Car Insurance is a legal requirement, but you have to get it through commercial companies, unlike Australia where when the vehicle is taxed you automatically get minimum insurance. (australia is not in a reccession like good old UK.....
As Frank says, in educating Rita, "It'd be good for us to leave a place that's just finishing for one that's just beginning". Its impossible to have a democracy when if insurance is requried by law, it is then handed out by commerical business. If you have No TV licence, then prison, Japan is the only other country I think that does this. Welcome to UK democracy.
This whole banking system stinks in this country and anyone believing for a moment that banks will do as they promise, on thier TV ad campaigns etc are dilluded. I see bank adverts saying how great and wonderful they are and what they can do for you *sheep, when the past two years they have been fking us in the A** and continue to do so.
I had, a credit card, debit card, proper IBAN numbers and real customers support offered me when I opened up the Euro and USA accounts, I even email my banks abroad and they respond....
Think Banking, £150+ a year for the pleasure...
Welcome to UK.:j:T0 -
Salford Quays, is the place where there are loads of wierd banking service institutions set up.
Further more, Think Banking are not open to everyone at all...another lie. If you are 'self employed' they will not give a you bank account unless you buck thier system.
Having had a discussion with them, they mention they cannot seperate the difference between monthly income or business income...hence the RBS who licence them will not allow this kind of bank account....Eerr, 'what kind of bank account'? If you apply to them for a bank account as a private person even if you are self employed and do not have a fixed monthly salary, you will be rejected. That also appears to me to be 'unfair practice', and might be worth looking into, it's restrictive and an unprovable situation against the applicant.0 -

Most banks don't allow businesses to be run through personal accounts. Thinkbanking/RBS probably take the view that a bankrupt won't have a seperate business account and will decline on that basis. It also decreases their potential risk from money laundering.
As it is, Thinkbanking is quite transparently a service for people with one monthly salary payment and that's it. Not a particularly good service, but there we go.urs sinserly,
