Hi, I use 1899, and am in the market to purchase a new cordless telephone set up for home. Probably a trio or quad set up. Will I get caller display with 1899. Also I seem to remember, it is an analog set up, so has anyone any suggetions which type of phone set up to go with please. All I want is an answer phone, the rest is really imaterial.

You shouldn't have a problem with caller id on incoming calls - as this isn't handled by 1899. ie. You only go over the 1899/18866 network when you dial out...?0

Incoming calls from someone dialling using 1899, 18185 and 18866 show CLI as 'International' - normally evenings and weekends - or the number in the full international format - usuall weekday, daytime - (e.g. this morning, I had a call from the Lincoln area and the CLI showed 00441522123456).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I find that calls from these show normal number most of the time. Occasionally international especially weekend and bank hols.0

Thanks all, I get the message. On the subject of 1899 being an anolog signal, I suppose you lose the quality of call that say a dect phone would supply?
Thanks again for your replies :beer:0 -
I use a DECT phone and find the quality the same as calls over other networks - very very occasional crackly line but no more than with any other provider.0

I always found when I was on BT, people calling me using 1899 etc would show International only on the weekdays before 18:00 after 18:00 and weekends I'd get the number.
Now I have ditched the landline and use VoIP, I always get the caller ID, as with VoIP unlike BT it will display international caller ID, so when people cal me from the USA, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia etc I get their number displayed too, as well as when people use 1899 to call me within the UK.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Thanks for all the info all. Very informative :T0
