hiya Sal, the only thought I would have would be on the hairdressing side. When you are coming to Poole for something else (from September as term ends next week) give the adult learning salon a ring or call 262300 and ask about having your hair done with a learner or as a model for a tutor. I am having mine done today and it's 4.50 for a cut and blow dry, probably less if Bea had hers done. The learners are well supervised and the salon is open most days and some evenings. Some are hairdressers who have been working for years but now have to get their NVQ where as in the past there wasn't the necessity for everyone to have it, so are quite experienced.

And we could have a coffee whilst you are here as my office door is about 6 feet away from the salon :D

As for grocery bill, I do cook everything from scratch and meal plan so I have no idea how to get it lower...eat less I guess. Although yes I will get loads of produce from the allotment soon :)
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I know that when I was on JSA both contributions based at first and then income based, I asked for help with bus fares to get to and from interviews - they coughed up but they won't tell you about it, you have to ask for it. My car sat on the drive and didnt move much - that was occasionally filled with petrol when my chap came to visit.

As others have said, cut down on your grocery bill - cook from scratch, shop carefully so make a list of what you need before you go out. Keep a spending diary so you know where your money is going.

Another way of using a spending diary is to allocate a specific amount from your budget and deduct spending through the week. Try to end the week with some over to carry forward to the next week. This avoids overspend and monitors your buying habits.
