Open Letter To David Cameron - 25 AUG REPONSE NOW IN

Wendy, is there anyway that with the letter that perhaps an emphasis can be put on the banks, long term, to provide support for those in financial hardship 24 hours a day rather than just maybe 12 hours a day and even less at the weekend. Many of the financial hardship departments as they stand today are part of a collections industry targetted for income rather than helping a customer in financial hardship which a suspension of charges and interest on an account could help with rather than 6 month payment plans which increase the overdraft to include charges and therefore increases the repayment schedule.0

Why don't you go the whole hog ? Why are the banks in such a favoured position where they can hijack your account.
Have the Government put them on the same footing as everyone else and then they might have to pay attention and provide customer services.
I am expecting a fight with A&L over their credit card as they will not respond to requests to properly answer questions and to correct errors. When I asked A&L if they would hijack my account NO ANSWER WAS THE QUICK REPLY.
I expect to have a battle over this0 -

I have always voted tory my whole life but if mr cameron does not push this issue for us all to get all of our money back, then i will be forced to think outside the main parties! THIS IS YOUR CHANCE MR CAMERON TO PUT THE NAIL INTO MR BROWNS POLITICAL COFFIN!!0

Sorry Martin but saying to the above that his reply comes 3 years too late seems a bit of a silly comment from you. The government of this country has been in the hands of the LABOUR PARTY for the last 14 years
so the Tories have been unable to actually change anything as they were not in power. Think about it.0 -

You write:
"No other companies have the power to take our cash in this way"
The irony is that you're demanding action from a bunch of thieves to deal with a bunch of thieves (who at least have some semblance of a contract in place) who endorse taking our cash from us in what is known as tax even before it hit our bank accounts.
The key to all of this is for consumers to take charge of their own lives, take responsibility for their own action, maybe set up their own banking systems that are considerably more ethical, etc. The problem is that the thieves that are the politicians give special priviledge to our big multi-national banking corporations with bailouts and create so many regulations and rules that it is increasingly difficult for small independents to enter the marketplace.0 -
Sorry, but the Tories are bandwaggon jumping again. They want to come across as the caring loveable Tory party but they are not.. For years as both a councillor and as a Parliamentary Candidate i have been fighting for and winning peoples claims for bank charges. Indeed only yesterday, in my employment as a debt councillor and claims manager i won yet another client £1006.86. I simply use the hardship test in most cases now and when the banks refuse i state that they are in contempt of the High Court ruling for hardship, amazing how so many then roll over.
Keep up the work Martin, not all politicians are as shallow as Camoron.0 -
Whilst I agree with most of what you say, you are missing one point. Whilst I have sympathy for people accidently going into unauthorised overdraft, ( this had happened twice to me and dealt with very well by Lloydstsb) I have no sympathy for those people who dont control the spending, know the rules of the bank they have agreed to, and then moan when they screw up. If people have to have an overdraft why dont they get an authorised one which costs much much less and stop moaning. Better still stop spending what you haven't got or switch bamks to get a better deal. It is too easy to blame everybody but themselves.0
