Fridge thermostat

Hi guys
Been having a problem with my fridge/freezer lately wherby the fridge compartment is running at about -1 to 0 degrees C and ice or frost then builds up. After a fair bit of research, it would appear that the most likely cause is the thermostat.
As per this website I have carried out a test to see if the thermostat is at fault.
When the stat is in the off position, the reading given is 1. Same as when the red and black probs simply are not touching. This would make perfect sense. I.e. the switch is not having any continuity.
I then put the stat to the coldest setting and get a reading of dead near zero. Again this would be expected as on the coldest setting the fridge would always be running and continuity would exist.
Now, when I tern the dial to the warmest setting, but not off, I still get a reading of zero. Being the fridge was at about 2 degrees at this stage (due me opening the door to undo some screws to gain access to stat) surely you would not want continuity on the warmest setting (i.e current to flow to switch on the compressor)?
Would you be in agreement that the stat needs to replace?
Thanks in advance.
