approx how much for a chimney lineing to be installed

im going to have a wood burner installed,so have had an estamate for a guy to fit it & supply the the liner kit which included 4x pots,the flue peice,also the peice that cathes all the muck/dust that falls down the chimney...the lenght of chimney is approx 10m..hes gave me an estamte £600 for the liner kit,£70 for the the plate that cathes all the muck & about £300 labour..i will have scaffold set up for him....does this sound reasonable to u guys

About the standard price. A lot of flue liners are 9m in length and it gets very expensive above this length.

Hi,

Last December I had a 6" chimney liner installed. I brought the liner myself from Hotline Chimneys along with a few other bits and bobs like a rain hat, top plate and clamp, etc.

As I didn't have a roof ladder I wouldn't go up on the roof, so found a bloke who was willing to go up there and put it in. It honestly took 5 mins max to pull 10M of liner through, with me tugging and pulling it through and him feeding it through. If you are willing to put scaffolding up, thus making easy access to the chimney, with the help of someone, pull the liner through. You can always pay someone like a chimney sweep to bed new pots on the stack for you.

Installing the wood burner is relatively straight forward. Just make sure the hearth is big enough to meet the regulations. If you want to do it properly (as I would recommend), apply for a buliding control notice and get it all signed off. This cost me about £95.

Some of the quotes I got were absolutely horrendous, hence why I decided to do it myself. It seemed I had a limited choice of HETAS installers locally and also the time of the year also played a part. I probably saved myself £1000 doing it myself from the highest quote.

With regards to the register plate, or more accurately a closure plate in the case of when a liner is installed, I didn't bother with one and just filled around the flue pipe with rockwoll insulation. Maybe one day I'll get round to putting one in.

One last tip is to get a data plate which has details of the liner, hearth/liner location etc. I have mine stuck next to my consumer unit. I got this free with my liner though you will need to order it.

I would suggest going over to ChimneyLinerDepot.com for help with getting the right chimney flue liner. They were very helpful with my DIY project and had the lowest prices around.

I had a similar dilema. I was getting crazy quotes from firms who never even bothered going up onto my roof to look at the chimney. One of them was charging £85 an hour for 2 people for 2 days !

In the end I decided to fit the liner myself. I bought 9 meters of liner from fluefactory.com ( £30 a metre for 904/904 ) Took it up onto my roof by pulling it up with rope from ground level. The only problem I had was that I had forgotten to buy a nose cone. After a few attempts, I made one up and the liner was down the chimney 30 secs as it slid right down without catching the inside of my chimney.

My builder then fitted the stove for me and I went back up and put the cowl on ( one which secured to the liner & chimney ).
